ok guys need your help. I'm running 3 daylight 6500k CFL's and 3 medium 2700k(all 27 watts) for a single plant. I have read somewhere....that one is for veggie stage and one is for flowering....I don't remember which though, should I leave it 3 and 3 for now or replace all bulbs according to stage...thx guys

Cool White(MH)= Veg
WarmWhite/Daylight(HPS)= Flower

Soft White works, but not nearly as effective. I'd scrap it. The plants respond much better to the others.

I'd recommend having a ratio of them during the different stages. I.E. have 4 CW with 2 WW for veg, and 4 WW with 2 CW for flower.


P.S.- I'd also recommend 75-100w per plant if possible.

Well use them all as these little cfl dont reall do anything for growing.If you can use a hps light which would be cheaper in the long run at least buy some T-5s or a vitalume 250 actual watt cfl light not equal to but an actual 250 watt light. A light and setup costs about $90 and will do 2-3 plants good

oh i can help you on this...

the day light you got is acutally a medium spectrum, i think usually around 4500k or 5000k, but they do make a cooler cfl at 2700k... your soft whites are actually the warm whites at 6000k

there should be a listing of their color temp in kelvins on the packaging... the higher number is the one better for flowering

No, it's the reverse of that. Higher colour temps produce more blue light and lower temps produce more red. Color temperature - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

6500k = blue = veg
2700k = red = flower

I can veg with a T.V., according to that chart it's loaded with blue spectrum. I could put a video on the T.V. with a picture of the sun and i bet it'll blast off!

ok guys new info I looked at the k's for each bulb I am running 3 daylight 27w CFL's at 6500k, 3 meduim CFL's 27w at 2700k...now while that i'm in the veggie stage should I remove the 2700k's and run 6500k's, then when it's time to flower, swap them up for 6 2700k's?

Ian: Don't sweat it, mate. It's an easy mistake to make. :)

Myname: It certainly won't hurt the plant if you were to use all six of them for both veg and flower. The lights merely emit more of a certain colour, alongside the other spectrums, so the plant can use them all just fine.

That said, for vegging one plant, six 27W CFLs aren't necessary. The 6500k CFLs would be perfect, although you could throw a 2700k in there for a fuller spectrum. We are simulating sunlight, afterall.

Flowering, however, is a little more demanding of light and will use all the light you can get.

Unfortunately, retina-burning TVs are a delicacy.

Im using a mix (Cool white, daylight)to veg and intend on keeping the same mix when I flower .

So what would be better to flower with (I know HPS but I dont got it yet)?

Soft white or cool white?
