well its really the amount of lumens and what K bulb you run during the veg and flower stage in grow your plant. if you look at the lumens between the mh and hps theirs not that much difference. a1000wtt mh is 110,000 lumens and a 1000wt this is 130,000 lumens. now for flowering you really want a 200,00K for a better flowering plant. a mh ia 42,000K which is more blue spectrum for veg ( plant growth ) however you can get a mh bulb as low as 37,000K that would work better for flower then the 42,000K

an HPS all the way through i think would be better. i never even used an MH bulb, forget about for the whole grow... Pe@ce.

Just harvested some of the rom hazes I was talkin about, here are the prelim results on the bud turnout:
but first a recap (flowering): sum rom hazes under 4-5 hrs hps + the rest sun
sum rom hazes under 4-5 hrs mh + the rest sun
The result is the hps rom hazes have way longer branches and noticeably bigger LOOKING buds. BUt when you squeeze them, the MH nugs are WAY DENSER.
This is in no way scientific or controlled, because of the sun factor. Also, I should mention that the first part of their flowering cycle was primarily under arti lights. I would say of the 65 days they flowered, 17 were under pure arti lights.
anyway, when all's told and done, i'll post the weights with pix.

yes you can grow solely with an hps light. like many have already said though, the color spectrum of hps is not the perfect one for vegetative growth whereas a mh light emits light in the optimal spectrum for growth. you probably wont notice a huge difference though either way.

UV increases potency substantially
metal halides have a fair amount of available UV
as where HPS have none
so you can boost your potency by either having a UV bulb in there with everything, or switching to a MH for the last couple weeks of flower

MH are usually only used for veg. get a HPS you can flower and veg with it. you want the orange spectrum for flower which MH doesnt have much of. it will work though. hps is just better.
