Started my 1st grow... bag seed, in soil (miracleG... had it on hand)

So far, I have 5 one-week-old seedlings, and 5 newly planted sprouts (a few days since germ)... started them in pots outside, and they liked the sun... had to bring em in before anyone sees

I just set em up under the light last night, and since 6am today they've been cookin for about 10 hours now

Here's the weather in my grow space:

sunny 400W MH w/ my brand spankin new lumatek digital ballast!
light is about 23 inch above tops of tallest babies
humidity= 70%
temp= 85 deg F
soil ph seems to be hangin just a hair under 7, but not sure if I'm using the meter right yet or not lol
set on a timer to 18-6 w/ stationary fan to cool the light and wiggle the stems a bit

Would love to hear some feedback if any of u have a sec!

hi loveit. the soil looks very wet so you need to let them dry out, you will only need to warter them 2-3 times a week, but it all looks rily good!!:mrgreen:

yeah, I know... not ideal... I'm hoping that since they're just little pots that any probs will be fixed with a couple repottings as long as I don't use mg again... thanks for the feedback

sounds cool dog- thanks for the advice:joint:... I will wait to water... just makes me nervous they'll get dried with that light so close... but then again, I'm paranoid that I don't have the light close enough lol

You should be OK with the MG since you are transplanting, looks like you are doing good and you got some nice lighting. Good luck

Guys dont forget Fdd grows with MG soil, and we all know who Fdd is. :mrgreen:

:peace::peace::peace:
Never heard of this FDD that you speak of, is he cute....lol

I'm just going on my own experience with MG, it burns my plants badly and it can be difficult to judge how much and when the food will be released. I've also seen too many people use this MG soil and then start a nute program like FF, talk about too much.....

So who is FDD that you all mentioned? maybe I can find out what they do about mg and nutes down the line... i don't really plan on using mg anymore, just kinda had some seeds, and had mg, and it seemed a heluva lot easier to germ and plant than finish my neglected grow rm lol

Here's the current conditions, 5 days since the first post:

light is now about 10 inches from the tops of the plants (i've gradually lowered them since my first post)
humitity= 65%
temp= 83 deg F
soil ph is steady, just under 7 on my meter
thinking about repotting now... gotta go to the store and get some good stuff to make my soil mix and decide upon pot size... got a fav recipe?
added CO2 Boost... check out the pics to see where i put it- will gladly accept recommendations!
been watering every two or three days mg has a funny shine to it... it looks wetter than it really is... no water today.

I guess technically I should start a grow journal for this lol...

First post :)

I love your setup and I hope you do not mind if I ask a few questions. Is this area in your house below ground level ? What is the temperature of the room completly aired out with the light off ? Other than the addition of the fan is there any other ventilation ?

thanks, i threw it together after i saw my seeds were actually germinating lol

this area is in a basement that's 3/4 underground, under the stairs. there was a flood there several years ago... it's nestled there behind an unused bar. when i cleaned all the junk out and got the fan moving and the light burning, the area dried out pretty nicely.

not sure about the temp, i'll check right now, but the lights and fan have only been off for an hour now... 82 deg F and 60% humidity, so let's look back and compare that with my stats in my former post to see what difference is, lol... little stoney right now...

i didn't alter the room to allow additional ventilation, but it's basically in the corner of a pretty large basement... the air can move a little, and there's not really fresh outside air flowing in, but at least i've got the CO2 that goes on and off with the lights. temps have been pretty stable in the summer- i'm interested to see what they will be like as winter ensues... might want all the heat the light can muster by then!

to be serious, this little grow space only exists because i bit off a little more than i could stand to chew with my crawl-space grow area that i've been digging out... wanted to get the grow moving, and i'll still finish the crawl-space area, and use it more for flowering and keep this area under the stairs a veging area, but that area is going to take a little while to develop... i wanna grow NOW lol

well, here are some more pics... the 5 on the right are the 2 week olds... the 4 on the left are a couple days younger.

temp is hangin around 85 deg F and humidity is 67%... still pretty stable... added a wall to the space (connects the top of the bar to underneath the steps... have some more work to do to seal of the room before i go away... someone's staying here, but won't know about the secret garden:

the hopefull crop:

here's an overhead shot of #2, the tallest (pushin 4 inches), sportin 5-blade leaves:

here's a close up of #1... particularly skunky... what is up with the dark coloration on the branch?:

here's the shorty from the top... maybe it's just not getting as much co2... looks healthy. maybe it's a girl, short and bushy? leave tips look a little curled...:

here it is a little closer:
