Small 8 plant closet grow help

I am new to growing weed but i have read up ridiculous amounts about it and so know as much as you can know without actually growing any.

I am converting the shed into my own place which my parents have agreed not to go in and inside i am going to put a small cupboard and a tall cupboard. It is goin to be just under 2ft deep and about 2'6" wide. The small cabinet is going to be about 3ft tall and the tall cabinet is goin to be about 5-6ft tall.

I am going to be using the small cabinet as my veging section and the tall one as my flowering section. that gives about 1sqr ft per plant and allows me to have 4 plants in each section.

For the veging room I shall be using 250w blue CFL and for the flowering room I will be using a 600w HPS. Ventilation wise, I will just have a small fan in each and then open the doors every day to let some fresh air in. Is this ok?

I will be growing Barneys Farm LSD feminized. Does anyone have any experience with this strain? Any suggestions on the medium i should use and nutrients for the different stages? I am in the UK so please dont give anything that you can only get in the US. I will be using a £25 NIG to take away the smell but i wont put it in the actual closet as ive heard that it can take away the smell, taste and some of the potency.

When i start i shall put up pictures and post my progress. Any suggestions or improvements would be appreciated.

Have you thought about temperatures inside of the cabinet with the 600watt hps? I know I didn't relize how much it added to the room temp and definently had to exhaust for a small space

Im in the UK and outside it gets quite cold, I mean at the moment it is sunny and outside it is 36F or 2C and the highest its gonna get this week is 55F (22C). If i have a fan it should keep it relativly cool but i really dont know how much an HPS 600w increases the temp by?

Oh and also does anyone know how large a yield i will get from 4 plants? LSD is supposed to be able to get up to 600g/m2. Would 8-10 ounces be a good aim if i can get the plants about 2-3ft?i

Well.. a couple things. First.. 600W hps will cook your plants in something that size with "a small fan." You should get a cool tube or other inline reflector. I am a CFL grower and I STILL managed to cook stuff w/ < 100W cool hue in veg. Also, the LSD is Indica.. you don't need a big 5 foot cabinet if you employ some training. SCROG 4 plants and you'll get massive yield w/ 4 foot, I bet.

Yea man. In a sealed shed a 600watt will raise the temp real fast if you don't have an exhaust fan. Get the ventilation sorted out BEFORE you start growing. Since this is outside I would recommend getting an inline fan and carbon filter to eliminate the smell in flower. Unfortunately you would need to find space on the inside for these items. You might be able to get away with only an opening for passive intake of cool air but you definitely need an strong exhaust fan. You can use the little plastic grills they put over dryer exhaust openings on houses to cover up the holes.

Thanks for the info, getting a good ventilation system will be hard to install without my parents knowing and quite expensive, what about if i used a 400w or even a 250w hps? Oh and also what creates the heat, the ballast or the bulb? because if its the ballast i can put that outside of the grow closet and have the light inside. Would a 250w be strong enough, it would work out as 62.5w per sqr ft? Also do metal halide lights also produce alot of heat? and again is it the bulb or the ballast?

The ballast gets warm but it is the bulb that makes a lot of heat. If you have no exhaust for hot air it doesn't matter what wattage you use. Your plants will cook. Metal hallide burns even hotter than HPS. Look into cooltubes as elephant rider said. They are one of the cheapest types of reflectors and they allow you to pull the hot air away from the bulb before it gets to your plants. But you'll need a good fan for that. And I'm not sure exactly what NIG is (negative ion generator?) but plants smell STRONG in flower. You will need to have a carbon filter unless you want the smell floating all around your house and yard. It might be better to save as much money as you can right now and when you move into your own place you can buy the proper equipment to grow as many pounds as you desire. My plants pay my rent for me

Thanks, what im going to do is get 400w hps lights and then get a cooling fan (like a fan heater but with cooling facility as well with an inbuilt thermostat wo if the temperature reaches a certain level it comes on blowing cold air in. I'll see how it goes, as they should be here next week. Negative ion generators are supposed to suck out all of the odor particles out of the air. Are there any other ways of tackling odor problems apart from carbon filter and ozone generators?
