My next Light

So currently i've been using a bunch of cfl's on my seedlings and a 400w hps on my vegetative and flowering plants and im planning on buying a new light to add to my grow room.

I was thinking on buying a mh because i hear that they are better on veg but ive also been considering a 1000w hps. im not sure what to go with, any suggestions?

A digital ballast will run both MH & HPS. MH is indeed better for veging provided you you use a a 6500K bulb not a generic 4100K but HPS ain't bad either as you probably already know.

I grew the same plant under 150w hps (2000k) and 60w fluoro tubes (4000k-5500k). The growth rate was similar in both during veg, hps obviously won during flowering. However the deal breaker was that my growth under the fluoro tubes (4000k-5500k) had so much more leafy/bushy growth and tighter node spacing. The hps was fine during veg except the plants node spacing was much larger and there was more stretched growth in general, not very many fan leaves either.

The more blue spectrum of the mh or fluoros during the vegetative stage is very much worth it for the more bushy and consequently more cola growth. Though if you went with the 1000w i doubt the spectrum would matter as the lumen output would just nullify everything.

on a side note how do you say/spell... colal, i want to use it in a sentence as "colal growth" sort of like if i were saying, "radial growth" or something. I guess I'm asking what's the adverb form of the word "cola"?

i think that depends on how many plants you have. if its relatively few you can get by with the 400W hps, some cfls, and get the new mh light. if you have a large number of plants i would recommend to go with the 1000W hps and just buy some cheap 6500K or daylight fluoros to make up for the lack of mh light. just my opinion. happy growing :blsmoke:

thats what i was thinking as well, within the week i plan to build a professional 8x8 grow room and I think the 1000w hps just might be the best addition to it

if your trying to max out your yield and if you got the money spring for a high wattage hps light and a high wattage mh light. i started my first grow with a 1000W hps for veg and had good results but then my 1000W mh came and i switched to that. i noticed a little faster growth but the biggest difference was the bushiness. with the mh the plant just got so much bushier, less space between nodes, etc.
in your 8x8 room if your vegging plants and then flowering them i would get a digital 1000W hps ballast with an hps bulb and you can also switch over to a 1000W mh bulb for the vegging. you can use the same ballast, reflector, socket, just need to get a mh bulb. if your going for more of a perpetual harvest where you got plants in veg and flower simultaneously, i would try and spring for two diff lights; mh for vegging and hps for flowering.
