Air Flow and Ventilation

I have a little problem. Ventilate light, and rid of smell

I cant decided weither to ventilate the light and room. or The entire room which covers the light...if you understnad. heres the logic

I have a Supernova 4"inline reflector. Its able to b connected by air ducts so i could potentally just contect my refector and be fine and not have a heat problem but i need to also rid of the smell!!

So heres the other option. Since the Grow Room is about the size of a human i could just hook up a intake to one side of it and an exhaust to the other. this rids of heat and smell.

Im using a 80cfm 4"inline fan for both intake an exhaust. this fan works right?
http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=46434

So should i just leave the reflector unhooked up to ducts and just have them hooked up to the reflector? or hook the lights to reflector and have a y-adapter so it covers both?
Im thinkin havin them only on sides....

WHAT SHOULD I DO???

p.s. dnt worry i will have the random fans inside just blowing air at plant

:peace:

Gett a carbon filter off ebay for a hundo and vent out the top, then for your hood take outside air from the left and have that fan blowing out the right side. Also a intake from the bottom with a 120mm pc fan. Thats my suggestion. You didnt mention what size light you are running but if its 400 watt and the box is as small as you say good luck keeping it cool the way I suggested keeps 2x4x6 room at 80* but with 600 watt but with much large vortex style fan and 6" duct.

That fan isn't going to be enough to cool any HID light that is for sure. I had the same fan just the six inch more powerful one and it couldn't keep my 250 watt cool for shit

Well im not looking so much for keeping the bulb cold just the room.

I dnt have money for the carbon filter. its one of those 2 ways thats it!

which one will b better??

i have no idea what to do cuse i cant spend a lot of money and carbon filter shit is wayy to expensive... we are talkin 50 dollar sollutions or less.

there are several threads on building a carbon filter for $10 - $15 on this site, you should definitely check them out, one of them you can get everything you need from walmart for $10 and put together in less than a half hour.

Its like this sports fans, I am air cooling a 1000watt light with a fan not much bigger than what you have. The reason we are able to do this, is because we have it separated from the intake and exhaust system. Blow outside air thru the tube and out of the grow area. It is a separate system.
Fans are rated in cfm with no restrictions, no bends, no fittings, and certainly not any "T"s, they are flow restrictors big time.
In order to control smell you must have a sealed room and that will require intake and exhaust fans. The intake fan needs to be rated slightly lower than the exhaust is so that you create a slight negative air pressure. If you do not have it that way the smelly air will take the path of no resistance and leak out of the room. You can not 'short-cut' and end up at the same spot, your plants do not like temperature extremes. VV

I have a 4inch 80cfm down towards the bottom blowing in air from the room. Then for exhast i have a 6inch 100Cfm contected to ducts which air comes in from outside and exits to otherside of outside. thus having 2 intake areas.

The reflector is just free hangin and not hooked up...

Good?

It may be good enough for what you have right now, it is not going to work that way come summer. Use the 4" fan to cool the light when you can afford to get a cool tube for the hid light, closed system, blown thru the light and out. Your intake can be passive to begin with, until your plants have grown a little and start to put out more odor. Remember to filter the intake air, dump it in the room, use the fan to pull the stale hot air out. This maybe the way you have it and I am just misunderstanding what you are saying.
When I started I used an Ona Block and a fan to control the odor, the little ones are like $10.00 and will last a couple of months in a small room.

A few pictures of the area might help me to understand what is going on there. Temperature extremes may not kill your plants, it will slow their growth. You know how it is, you are out in the sun, no wind, high humidity? Sweat stick to your body? Your plants have to transpire, too high of temps will slow the process, clog up the stomata, this is your plants waste disposal system, it gets like constipated, imagine if you didn't shit for a week.
For healthy growth you need 'fresh air' every 3 to 5 minutes. Venting the room properly, all three systems set up and working properly will insure that, there aren't any short cuts. VV:eyesmoke:

I agree with Victor! The best case is to have a closed area and an Air Inlet and The fan should suck the air out to an attic or crawl space. The 2nd pic you can see the foil air intake.
You have a small space but treat it as if it was a big space! You have a fan seal up your room and run the fan to pull the air out and control your temp and smell. If you run your exhaust to an attic you may not need a carbon.
Just seal up and have 1 way in, 1 way out.

so VV your saying the vent fans should be on constantly?
The exhaust and intake fans should be, I use a timer to start my air cooling fan, it comes on when the light does and goes off 5 minutes after.

I would not just dump that warm moist air into my attic again, you can create rain in the spring and mold in the summer, trust me on this one. And telling your significant other that the ceiling tiles needed to be replaced anyway, doesn't help much. If your wife is as understanding as mine, you may be ok ....once. lol VV:bigjoint:

Im building my grow room very soon.
Its a 42"*42"*80" area.

My reflector actually has it so its in closed. with the sheet making the only openings the duct air ways. but how would i run the ducts throught the wall? can i just cut like 4.25" holes and pull ducts through then duct tape shut and run the ducts to the reflector pulling a lil more than needed for height variations?

The thing is i wanted the smell problem to be succed out. I might just go with a high volocity one
