Hard Time Cloning

Im currenty using those grow plugs, http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=53883

But its taking a very long time to root. What I do is stick them in a egg carton tray to keep them upright, and spray it down with water & superthrive and stick them inside a humidity dome.

I get 100% rooting on the clones, but it takes up to two weeks for them to show roots at all.

Ill stick it in soil at two weeks, but it doesnt show any growth for a long time, another two weeks.

Whats my problem? Any help is welcome

i see no problem, just cuz root appears doesnt mean it ready to start growth, it wants to build itself a good root system before it puts out new growth.

hmm, what's the temp where you're keeping your clones? A little heat mat beneath the clone tray can done wonders I'm told. I just keep mine in the high 70s and get roots in 5-6 days.

Heat mats work wonders, dump the humidity dome. I use rapid rooters like yourself and sometimes I get roots in just a few days.

i completley forgot to mention how the heating mat will help. +rep for reminding me lol

Well, my veg box is around 75 deg, do I still need a heat mat then if thats all they bring it up to?

Ill dump the humidity dome, see if they root faster

Why would you dump the dome?
Keeping the humidity up seems to slow rooting. I think it has to do with limited transpiration at high humidity.

Here is how I clone in short:

1. Take cutting
2. Remove lower leaves
3. Dip in cloning gel/powder
4. Put the cutting in the wet plug
5. Place cuttings in the RR tray on a heat mat
7. Leave in the dark for six hours
8. Switch to 24hrs of light
9. Allow the top of the RR plugs to dry a bit then add some water to the bottom of the tray to promote downward root growth.

Hmm, Ive never done the 6 hrs of dark. I just stick them straight into 18/6 because its also in my veg box. Think it matters?

go buy a daisy clone, or any type of aeroponic cloner, watch roots grow faster than you've ever seen and and get 100% success rate, i have a small 8 site one that i just keep clones in constant rotation with

well, i need something small. I only do max of 4 clones at a time, and only use a footprint of 5x5 inches. What if the heat pads were under plants, any bad?

Stole the snake rock from this guy. Still got his heat light. Really made a difference on my clones, made the water in the tray warm instead of cool to the touch. I also went out and bought some transplant/cutting ferts. It's basically just a light fert mix with the same active ingredient as the rooting hormone gel/powder so one could prob make their own. It was 4$.

i've had a fair bit of trouble cloning too.
I picked up a rooting powder and it sped things up a bit, try it if you haven't already.

Well I did my first batch of clones a month or so back. I do the Hempy Bucket system in gallon buckets with Pearlite. I screwed up cause all the Pearlite I could find where they was not getting nosey was sorry assed Miracle Grow Pearlite with built in plant food. Put a dome over them and misted them down with light nutes 5 times a day and with the moisture dome (disposable plastic lid off a store bought cake) in place under CFL's for about a week. Fortunantly was on vacation so I was there ready to squirt. The plants are running hot and cold turning yellow on some leaves while others look nice n green. Seems like when I give em a few nutes it hurts em...guessing it combining with the Miracle grow to over nute it is all I can figure. I dump perfectly ph water on there and it comes out near off the charts as being too high in the runoff water. Even went so far as to dump out what loose Pearlite I could and refill with real un nuted Pearlite. Is here any hope for me and my babies? Any suggestions welcome except that I dont buy any more Miracle Grow Pearlite. I learnt that lesson already. I also went and bought a 50 pound bag of Turface Game Saver and think I give that a try instead of Pearlite next time. What yall think? I need to start blooming purty soon.

you shouldn't be using anything with nutes when trying to clone unless the nutes are for clones/seedlings... I just use the dome until they get roots then I take it off and replant into cups or something else. just mess around a bit you will find something that works for you.
