The humidity isn't as much of a problem as getting the temps down right now...will a decent swamp cooler do the trick for that space you think? Do the swamp coolers only cool down as cold as the water in it is? I can't see it releasing cool air for too long in a room thats already 90 degreesSwamp coolers will add humidity a/c's will remove humidity.
I was looking at something like this http://www.amazon.com/SPT-SF-608R-Portable-Evaporative-Cooler/dp/B000OKHY2S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1240884596&sr=1-1Swamp coolers use fresh cool water dripped over coco type pads and a fan sucks in fresh air over the cool water soaked pads and into your space. How much it cools depends on the size of your swamp cooler. 14x10 is a pretty normal size bedroom.
this sounds like a trick question,,, though Ive never used a swamp cooler Im sure that in flower you really dont want high humidity , Im keeping in mind you have a larger than normal room on your hands and should be able to dissipate heat a bit better maybe you could scrap the whole idea and just get a bigger cfm fan it would be easier on the E-bill over time and is an awesome investment, but to your question AC sounds like the better optionSwamp coolers work by using the heat from the room to evaporate water. So they will keep working even if in a 90 degree room.
I use one in my shop where my cabs are. Works good and uses very little electricity.
good luck

I have a pretty big cfm fan that brings in a little air from another room, which is usually hot. I keep it on 15 mins and off 15 mins just to exchange air and let the AC cool down the room, does htat make snese?this sounds like a trick question,,, though Ive never used a swamp cooler Im sure that in flower you really dont want high humidity , Im keeping in mind you have a larger than normal room on your hands and should be able to dissipate heat a bit better maybe you could scrap the whole idea and just get a bigger cfm fan it would be easier on the E-bill over time and is an awesome investment, but to your question AC sounds like the better option
swamp cooler would be better on saving on electricty140 sq feet is pretty large, how many watts are you burning in lighting? An ac may burns a lot of electricity and you have to be aware of the limits on that circuit.
An ac would be optimum, but a swamp cooler will help. Water absorbs heat when it evaporates and that's how they cool. They do not remove much heat, but they can make a difference. And high humidity is not good for flowering so you may have to add a dehumidifier, which will also cool the air a little. I use a swamp cooler at work, and an ac in my grow.
If you can power it get an ac,.. 5,000 btu will work wonders. You can add humidity easily, just by using wicks in buckets/cups of water in front of your recirculating fans.
If you're in your house, have you tried to close up vents to other rooms to direct the cool air to the grow(assuming you have central air)? Constant high humidity will damage hard wood floors, make furniture and doors swell and can cause mold in your grow. You'd want to add a dehumidifier during flowering, and then it may have been better to just get an ac unit from the start.
