Looking for suggestions: Closet 1.5ft deep x 3ft wide x 5ft high

Can anyone help?

My closet is 1.5ft deep x 3ft wide x 5ft high. I am looking to keep things as inexpensive as possible, but I would like the buds to turn out nice. And certainly I would love to maximize yield. It seems like HPS is the way to go... maybe a 250 or 400 watt? Not sure. Im thinking about 3 plants in soil. Odor is somewhat of a concern.

What do you think?

400watt hps system. $100. Insidesun.com
Air purifier. $100 anywhere online.
& your set. A couple of fans. Good dirt. Peat moss is my all time favorite. & your good to go. $200 may seem like alot but with a 400watt system you'll love the dense big buds you'll end up with so waaay worth it.

i think a 400 watt light is going to heat up your space too much. unless you have a way to seriously ventilate that grow space you're going to have problems with heat stress. i have a 5x8x8 room and the temperature is perfect, but i am able to vent outside and i'm in a basement. before i got my ventilation set up though, i did a test run of how the light would heat up the room and i was hitting high eighties and low nineties. way outside the range of what is good for your babies (unless you have CO2, which i'm assuming doesn't fit into your keeping the cost down plan). a 400 watt light throws out some serious heat. you might want to think about a 250 watt for your first grow.

soil is a good call. peat moss is a good suggestion. get some fox farm to mix in there if you can. :peace:

Dude don't use an HPS in that closet unless you plan on ripping up the ceiling to add ducting and out-take. I just finished an AK47 grow in a closet almost the exact same size and I did it for less than $100 with CFLs and I still battled with heat issues!

What was your cfl setup like? Ive been thinking about going that route, especially cause its so much cheaper. However i hear you really loose a great deal of yield weight by using cfl's as opposed to hps. Thanks in advanced for anyones thoughts.

fairfax & Adams. Hydroaisis. My favorite store
As a matter of fact, i stopped here yesterday. Good shop, only thing is they dont seem to have a lot in stock. You have to order a lot of their stuff which is fine. I just wanted to find a big place that has all kinds of stuff in stock to take a look at.

Got a Cfl setup Now and my baby is doing excellent!!! I have her on a 20-4 cycle under a 15watt aquarium light. and 2-26watt cfl's bulbs. 1 in each lamp with each lamp lighting a diffrent area. I think about 4000 lumens. my set-up is very cheap. tin foil, a moving box, lighting and thats about it. she is a clone (dream Queen) i got from the club out in oakland, ca. she is growing rapidly. Ive had her for 5 days and she has double the foliage my boy has from the same plant but grown outdoors. I'd say atleast 6-7 new leafs and branches and about 10 more that i know will also be bud sites eventually. so the cfl setup is great! atleast for veg. growth it is. I add no nutrients and the soil is 10-5-5.

Yeah I know. They have tons of nutrients & a couple of grow tent set ups in their store. Not too much to look at. But they do have everything you would need. Try their store online. They have tons of stuff online.

Do you have any pictures by any chance? Is it better to use more bulbs if you can?

What do you call the piece you screw the cfl into that you plug in?

The more bulbs the better. Each 23 watt bulb is equivalent to a 100 watts. so four is perfect! I went and bought two desk top lamps w/ the long adjustable goose neck. $9 a piece at target. you can use up to a 60 watt cfl bulb in em. so a 42 watt bulbs would be great. and just light and adjust as needed. the gooseneck lamps are great to get to every spot of the plant. and ill try and throw sum pix up lata.

Click the link I posted in my earlier reply to my grow journal. It contains all the specifics. As for the hood/fixture, see my signature which has a link to the fixture I made specifically for that grow. You definitely loose yield with CFLs, unless your prepared to shroud a plant with 8-12 42w bulbs (which are $10 each at Home Depot) but you gain a lot of advantages, like not having to install an industrial ducting and venting system to deal with the heat created by HID lights.

i've got the same size closet i'm doin my first grow in. HPS would be way too hot, ive got 9 cfls and it gets into the low ninetys sometimes, and i'm in colorado. heres what i put together at home depot for like 20 bucks. its a 6 prong outlet with 3 light bulb-to-plug-in connectors that are plugged into a Y, its like $15 bucks at home depot plus the 6 lights at walmart for $18....i'm pullin 9600 lumens for $33 dollars, just go to home depot stoned and walk around the lighting isle where the little gadgets are, you'll piece something together cheap but wherei live home depot doesnt carry 6500k cfls, gotta go to walmart...oh ya, get a little fan at walmart $10 and a temp/humidity$6, well worth it, i learned the hard way, and dont touch miracle grow.

Can anyone make specific lighting recommendations for veg and flower... 3-4 bubba kush clones.
400w HPS. CFLs are great for micro-grows but I don't even want to think about how many it would take to grow 4 trees! By the time it was all said and done, I used 10 CFLs on my 1 AK47 and still could not get mature growth for the buds below the canopy.

I'd say 3 trees under CFLs in kind of the upper limit.
