A question for all the parents...

yea I keep it hidden from my kids, my oldest of 2 1/2 and I had to stop letting her see my plants cuz she was askin too many questions and she called them "caca grapes" cuz the stems look kinda like the stems left over from a grape vine.

that was because when ever she asked me what they were or what bud was I would say dont touch this is caca

so I was afraid she would talk to her gradma and tell her about these "caca grapes" then I just figured you must hide it or your kids will say somthing and god forbid they say it in class in kindegarden or somthing.

I just keep the closet locked and when I go in there I just lock the door.

Well I know I will educate my kid about everything Pros and Cons.....They will also be aware of what other people are gonna say and what not....I can't tell you know but If I simply tell my children to just listen to what they have to say, and if you have any questions you come to me, then Im almost positive they will.....I hope. In other words If I say listen this is the way it is, but this is the way it is percieved to some,....I would rather you just keep it in the household, then I would hope my kids would be like "Ok Dad no problem"

Im not gonna tell them that smoking bud is the way to life, however I will let them know that it isn't what people percieve it to be....I then will teach and continue to educate them so they have a better understanding and by that time they should be aware of what's at stake when I simply say Lets just keep this in the household....its like Don't talk to strangers"


That is providing you are in a illegal situation.

that's a good point. how do you talk to your kids to give them most accurate view possible and be honest about what you do without putting your family in legal danger?

My question: do you wait for your kids' teachers to talk about drugs and talk to your kids afterwards? risking them having a warped image and perhaps misconception about cannabis.

OR

Do you talk to them early so the when their teachers to talk to your kids about drugs they'll already have an understanding? risking them asking potentially dangerous questions?

well to me ideally you dont want them to ever smoke pot so maybe if they have a warped sense that its bad is not such a bad thing

See I disagree, because by isolating them from the real world will only cause more problems.....But hey....Thats just me.

Also it gives marijuana a bad name...which I don't believe it is...but hey again thats just me.

Well yeah but at the same time If she experiments with it, are you gonna tell her it's bad....It's ok to not want your children to smoke bud....same as not wanting them to smoke cigarettes, or drink....but the fact of the matter is (IMO) they are being mislead because the 2 are accepted everywhere and the other isn't for the most part.......So regardless of what my kid chooses they will be educated (pros and cons) and that is the best I can do....they will ultimatly make their own decisions

i think ultimately it should be your kids decision whether or not to smoke pot or drink or whatever. The best that can be done is to give them an accurate understanding and let them choose if it's for them or not.

I agree, when the time comes for that choice to be made. I want my daughter to feel knowledgable and safe enough to make it. You can't hide it forever from them. And if you try, it will only make it worse. You have to be honest and open with them.

Honesty is very important when it come to children. I have a 9 yr. old that told me that he didnt want me to die frome smoking pot. So i started explaining to him, then i sat him down with me and had him watch the HBO show "In Pot We Trust", and also told him what i do at home on my time is NO ONE elses business

mmm..it is a great thread, and this is the way they should be. i just have a few more things to add. first off, DARE had no impact on my way of thinking. until about...i'd say summer after 8th grade, i didn't feel one way or another about pot. then, eventually i realized i was gonna smoke it, just because of the path i was on, and the personal views i started to adopt. however i didn't actually start until after my sophmore year, and i still regard it as a personal choice. no one else had a deciding influence for me one way or another, it's all how you feel. and i'm still like that. as long as you have legit reasons for not smoking, and can back htem up (not just with, "drugs are bad") i'm fine. i'm still best friends with a whole slew of people who don't smoke, and i just don't smoke around them. if i want a joint or a bowl while i'm hanging with them, i quietly go off by myself, i dont' just leave, and then i come back like it's no big deal...because it's not. to me or them. personal choices, and i never put pressure on anyone to smoke or not, simply to think about it. that's all.

i agree.....but as for now i steer my son away from all drugs for the simple fact that i dont want him to turn out like me and to use his mind to be creative and not destructive. Hell we never know any one of our children could be the inventer of the next hella smoking device or top notch buds.

That was a pretty decent docomentary, The one thing that really stuck in my mind for a while after seeing it was the dramatic positive effect smoking pot had on the single Mom of fours boys with the stutter...dont know how she could ever do it without smoking pot and comunicate well......

Hell, my parents were the controlling type, "dont drink at all", "Dont even think about touching a drug" that kind of stuff. Now look at me, experimenting and stuff. fuck. hahaha

The DARE program in our area was cancelled, "deemed ineffective for what it cost taxpayers"...not really sure how someone could come up with those results...
