CFL Positioning question..

First off.. yes this picture is very crude..

Anyway! Im wondering if setting up CFLs like shown in the picture will help a plant flower better..

The top most nodes are Budding great because they are closest to my Lights (Which hang over my plant) Im wondering if setting up CFLs on each side.. about midway on the plant will help the Buds from the base to the Top develop as well as the ones on top?

In the picture the ones at the top are what i currently have.. 4x 23W 2700k CFLs..

Side lighting is what makes CFLs so great. You can cram bulbs all over the place so the plant recieves even lighting and bud maturation. Definately try and surround your plants as much as possible. I have 4x23w fixtures like yours covering the top and hang single 68w bulbs in the middle/sides and it works great. Lookin good, keep it up!

* side lighting also drastically helps in keeping node spacing short which helps keep the plant manageable for maximum CFL coverage

That's basically the arrangement I'm using I have two strategically placed rigs on either side and a large rig on the cola to help with production. Just get as much light as close to the bud sites as you possibly can to help them grow denser and better.
Just be careful you don't let the bud site actually touch the bulb, you can kill it off or make it go hermie on you.

Excellent.. Thank you both for the quick replys

Actually cramming lights together is just wasteful and not very cost effective. When positioning cfl's move the lights around the plant to provide maximum lighting to as much of the plant as possible. Putting two cfls next to each other does not make the light brighter. Only put them close enough so that the brightest area of light overlaps slightly any more then that is a waste.

By "rig" I think he meant 4 lights attached via splitters which spreads them out almost the perfect distance. And not to be a dick but your incorrect on two lights together not being brighter...If you had the entire plant netted with lights it would still be two times better to have twice as many lights. You want total lumens per sq feet and two bulbs is twice the lumens as one...

Def correct on wanting to cover as much of the plant as possible though

When I flower and use cfl's in conjunction with my hps I have them on the top and both sides. Also if thats your grow box you want to wrap that baby around in mylar which you can get from walmart. I like to use domes that have white paint inside so no light is wasted.

To respond to the Post about lights.. yes my "Rig" Is a Powerstrip mounted upside down.. With 2 Y Addapters.. If that makes any sense..

And i do have an emergency blanket.. i just couldnt figure out how to properly cover the walls of the box with it.. Tape, string, ect ect.. all had issues keeping it on the walls.

What do you use to "Mount" Your reflective material to the walls of your box?

sorry I guess I described it poorly they aren't right next to each other they are all targeted on specific sites.
I use a lot of adapters and stuff to get things where I want it.

I will direct you here so this doesn't go on for 10 pages. https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/173913-why-do-cfls-suck-9.html#post2249036

Yeah I disagree with the title as well. Cfl's might not be as good for growing but in some situations they are definitely a better choice and very good if you're just starting.

Good link and article but should be re-named "CFLs are not as efficient as HID" which is definately true. But some people cant go HID.

If I were a first time grower though I wouldn't get 2 400 watt hps though lol. Then they come on this site and bitch about how they set up a $2000 grow room and got no help when it comes to plant growing... You want to drive stick shift you dont go out and get a porche 911 turbo, you go buy a cheap ass 1993 ford mustang manual. Cfl's are perfect for first time grows. The end result will be a high which everyone ont his forum is trying to achieve, :peace:
