My LED fluoro grow #1

Stylez T 12 aren't the best fluorescent bulbs as far as output, and I agree with Treeth the longer the dark period the more stretch, I used 18/6 and I liked the proportions of my plants.

thanks guys im going to change the light cycle this weekend. yesterday when i checked on them i noticed two small holes in one of the leaves. is that bad should i take those leaves off or spray them with something? i also noticed one or two leaves shriveled up and got all crispy. I think it might just be the hanging cfls that got to close. ill have some pictures on thursday. gotta go to work. thanks again!

Stylez yeah all my lights are fluoro's except the UFO looking thing which is my 90 watt LED UFO

Grow space to be honest I didn't really know how it would perform like the claims but I'd thought I'd give it a try. I was drawn to it for its efficiency as far as it only draws 90 watts, doesn't put off heat (which would have been a problem in a space my size) and was under $200. Not to mention their life-span and the fact that there's no replacing bulbs and ballasts. I've always had addition lighting to the UFO and don't really know if it would produce by itself but I'm happy with it

Happy to report that on the 4 day of flower I have one confirmed female!:hump:
Its one of the plants that I've topped and now has 3 main budding sites. Hopefully there be more females sited soon. I'll have pics in a little while don't know if my camera can get close and focussed enough to see female parts but I'll try:peace:

Hey Bean,

I'm a week into flowering now, and sadly no confirmation of female genetics; after planting some Dutch Passion feminized~ and therefore I don't really even know what kind of sexes I might get_

But some are stretchin' out like mad, and there's Just no way to stop it.

To Buds Bean!

beautiful madness!

i'm at week 7 from transplant (3wk germ) running here an HTG 3rdGen LED UFO, dual T5HOs, and a pair of 40w(150)CFLs...

'soil grow (LST quasi-SOG) with FF nutes, but modified schedule to accommodate BMO's SPT and blackstrap feedings...

'been using UVB for only the past week or so @ 4 hrs at 'midday', but no noticeable ramp-up of trichs yet...

'started out with 6 plants from NYC bagseed, 4 of which were males... :(

still, 'look'n forward to harvest 'round the end of July of the remaining 2.

i love my LED UFO for its low thermal output, power efficiency, and effectiveness through flower (with support).

cheers

i know some folks have major reservations about LEDs (ranging from mild skepticism to outright hostility [which, incidentally, i crazily suspicion is commercially motivated on the part of the purveyors of more 'traditional' apparatus]), and as far as large-scaled operations/commercial grows are concerned they're undoubtedly not the most efficient tool, but for the small hobbyist/personal grower working on only a couple of plants they're an excellent alternative! there needs to be more threads like this one demonstrating their efficacy and good use.

Bean! post more porn! :weed:

lol i would think a cfl would kill those led panels on cost alone. Its good to see someone expermenting with them like been/Treeth but look at the shit he has in one pic, lol its just not practical and i think there only for a person who wants to try something out there and new. The guys growing for the coin are using multi 1000's or 600's dude and the avg smoker needs atleast 400 just to keep there personal smoke going without happing to pay. There is a rule of watts = bud and 90 watts wouldn't sure as hell keep me going for a week lmfao let alone 4 months.

Great to see yas trying something new guys and keeping the thread alive with the out comes and results :) Waiting to see the weights at the end and conculsions :)

i hear ya' man, but i'm not sure that the "rule of watts" holds true with spectrum-specific and highly efficient LEDs (which is why they're so practical for the small grower) [?] ... but, as you say, final dry yield will be the proof in the pudding!

Well now have 4 confirmed females and unfortunately 2 males which are now gone from the pics still happy with the 2 to 1 ratio. hoping to end up with at least 6 ladies 9 would be great. I like the keep you guys interested so pics are on the way. I'm optimistic on how the LED/CFL combo will preform based on how fast they showed sex after switching to 14/10( I think 4-5 days is fast) , hope to offset the lengthier flowering times associated with LEDs by giving the plants a couple more a day compared to 12/12. Also I just got my IR (infared) and uvb bulbs can't wait to add them to the mix. Unfortunately I have to buy some T8 strip fixtures because I bought the uvbs in a T8 rather than a T5 which is what I have currently, a small price to pay for what I hope will increased trich development

Great to see all the new and familiar faces post here! For a while I wasn't getting much love here on RIU but I guess you have to pay some dues and put in the work to get some attention and thats fine.
Treeth sorry to hear about all the males but just look on the bright side you can pay all your attention on your 2 ladies, and btw your setup looks intense

Georgi and Stylez thanks for chiming in, I really think especial with LEDs you have to come to your own conclusions and not buy into the negative or positive hype for that matter. Unless you throw down some serious dough to get the newest, brightest(highest wattage), LEDs or design your own like Treeth I don't think they can bear the load of vegging (maybe vegging, I don't know) and flowering alone. But I do think that they can improve almost any light type be it CFLs, HPS or what ever when used together. I not out to prove the LEDs are the latest greatest just trying to get the best results out of the setup I've put together. maybe when I get more experience I'll experiment more with just LEDs but lets just get thru this first grow first. I have to say so far I'm really happy with the results especially after the nute/ph issues I had earlier, some of my best looking plants turned out female including some that I topped so they have multiple main soots and budding sites. hopefully I have some that I plants that I didn't top turn out female so that I can compare weights that the two different styles puts out. In the long run I just hope to maintain the the health of the plants through harvest so that I can give an example of what LEDs can contribute to growing quality plants :weed:

here are the pics I promised
#1 is overhead view (I rearranged the pots since I removed 2)
#2 a close up of white hairs that isn't so clear camera can't focus that close a distance
#3 my top performer
#4 another close up

hey bean,

i know you're using your cfls as lateral supplements, but you still might consider orienting them horizontally to maximize their light distribution...

what's your current light regime? 'stilll 14/10 or have you gone to 12/12? any pics of cola development (#2 is too blurry to see wuz'up)? also, how're they smell'n and what are you doing for odor control (presuming that's an issue?)?

saludos, amigo

Georgi yeah I'm still at 14/10 for a light cycle and plan to keep it that way unless I feel its not working out but so far so good. I have 6 confirmed females now and I think another male which puts me at 6 females, 3 males, and 3 still undetermined. I plan to change the way I hang the cfls but I have to figure out how to due that without blocking the LED, I realize I need to get the up higher and horizonital. No real flowering yet just pre flowers pistils with the little white hairs. I'll post more pics once I get the IR and uvb bulbs up and as soon as my camera can get a good close up
