GLOBAL WARMING is clearly a world-wide tax scam with a bonus of keeping down developing nations. Congratulations to Al Gore for preaching convincingly enough to the general public that they finally believe his poisoned words.

Dyson suggest we plant a trillion trees (very easy to do, world-wide) to mitigate the entire effects of burning carbon and people call him crazy, and give Gore a fucking Nobel. Why? Politicians are evil and most people are idiots. And we're all terrorists; sad commentary on the new world.

Yah know, it just might have been better if he did win that darn election. He didn't give a wit about the climate when he had his power!

It was his humiliating defeat (all he had to do was carry his own state!), which brought this knee jerk reaction of "I'll show them".

Carbon is GOOD not bad. Man's output of carbon has a tiny tiny tiny footprint. There is a volcano in Africa which matches the ENTIRE US greenhouse & carbon emissions EVERY DAY. Wanna guess how many volcanoes there are? It's a joke, a canard. Water vapor is far more inclined to push climate around than carbon, but it's impossible to tax!!! Follow the money and you will find the truth.

In the end, it is the SUN which controls everything on earth. The earth is COOLING and has been since 1998. It will continue for at least another twenty years. Think how many people could have been fed with the money that is about to be wasted!!!

the national academy of sciences/the american association for the advancements of science/the american institute of physics/the american geophysical union/the american chemical society and the american meteorlogical association to name just a few would all disagree. the majority of reputable scientists agree people have a direct effect on climate. all the deforestation and carbon emissions have a direct effect its common knowledge how could they not. for every action there is an equal reaction we as a species cant do whatever we want to the enviroment and not expect consequences. it amazes me anyone would argue against the obvious.

we're destroying ourselves, not the planet. when we all die, the earth will live on. :peace:

well thats true no matter what people do bacteria viruses and other tough simple organisms will survive and start anew. even if nukes were involved.

heh, I guess you don't understand how grants for research and politics play out in science. If you want to get the big research grants now a days, you need to go along. It's a sad state of affairs.

Just answer my volcano scenario and I will be satisfied. No one you mentioned can do it. They all fall silent.

yes volcanos pump out massive volumes of co2 they always have thats part of the balance the earth has had for billions of years i dont understand how that relates to human influenced deforestation and carbon emissions which clearly are upsetting the balance of our earth. also the institutions i listed do not depend on global warming being true or false for monetary security.

Since ONE volcano = the ENTIRE US.... how are we really affecting the earth? it's MINISCULE!!!! Beyond TINY!!!!

The only thing clear is the money that is going to roll in. Politicians love to create crisis'....it's the new formula of compassion.

trees through photosynthesis fix carbon as we all know cut them down at the rate we are and we will have excess co2 in the atmosphere which leads to other issues. this is a serious problem of many caused by humans directly the huge majority of scientists who know more about this than any of us agree and not all of them are being paid off lol. this is not and should not be a political issue as everyone loses if we continue down the road of irresponsible ecological practices.

How much pollution does a volcano produce? I’ve heard that a volcanoes spew out as much pollution as all the cars that have ever been put on Earth combined but how much pollution does a volcano produce when it erupts? Darwin Teague

We asked our guest Marie Edmonds:
Marie- This is a very good question and it gives me an opportunity to dispel some of the myths about volcanoes and global warming and pollution. Volcanoes emit CO2 and SO2: carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide are the main gases that might be construed to cause global warming or pollution. Volcanoes emit around 100,000,000 tonnes of CO2 a year. Compare that to man-made emissions of CO2 which comes to about 10,000,000,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. So volcanoes emit around 1/100th of CO2 that we do and are therefore insignificant in terms of global warming. Sulphur dioxide on the other hand, volcanoes emit around a tenth of the anthropogenic emissions of SO2. That forms regional smog.
Chris- Isn’t there a benefit of sulphur dioxide in that it reflects heat back in to space? In fact it cools down the Earth so volcanoes are quite good in that respect because they keep us cooler than we otherwise would be.
Marie- Yes. There has been some research in the last few years that suggests very large eruptions such as Pinatubo in 1991. That eruption emitted about 20 megatonnes of SO2 into the stratosphere. Eruptions such as those which happen once every decade in fact have slowed down global warming a little bit. Without those eruptions we’d actually see the effects of global warming much more now than we do.
