Day 20. What could be wrong with these things?

So I started a thread at Day 13 to see how they looked and, they looked sad. Everyone mentioned that they were getting over watered, which they were, badly. Since then I have given them the correct amount of water, but they havnt improved any.

Also had a slight heat issue there for a bit (85-90s) but I purchased an A/C unit and put in the window yesterday, the temps are 80-85 now with the tent completely sealed up, which is pretty good I think.

anyway, the plants look like they are dying, and fast. Then again, Im a newb. I just know something isnt right.

This is bagseed, it was a test run to see how things would go until I got my setup completed.

The A/C unit was the last thing I needed so I am ready to start my good seeds, but scared as the plants Ive got now are dying. Im going to continue growing these also.

What could be wrong with these very sad messed up looking things?

what is the ph of water your using? what soil? they've definitely been overwatered. let soil dry out a bit before watering again. and you've also heat stressed them. check the ph, get that correct. get room temp. correct, and buy a quality soil BEFORE you use any high quality seeds. use these plants you have now to teach yourself how to grow.

Ive got one of the pH/Chlorine pool tester kits to check the water, but its a bit difficult to read. Id say my pH of water is between 6-7.

The temp is under control now. As for soil, im using MG potting soil which could be giving these plants nute burn I guess (form what Ive read in other posts) but overall it is somewhat quality soil right? When I do my good seeds tho I only plan to use about 1/4 of that MG soil. 1/4 Sphanus Peatmoss, and 2/4 Pearlite.

This definitely looks like a PH problem and a lot of overwatering. Your temps get as high as 85 degrees with 4 CFL's?

How are you going to flower in a tent that you can't keep cool with 4 CFL's? Going to be quite a task.

I dont have 4 CFLs. There are 8CFLs in the picture. They are all on Y splitters, so other 4 are prob hidden behind the ones you see.

Someone said I should only be giving them like 100-200mL water when I water, I was giving each plant like half a glass (prob about 400mL) per each day, so def prob water rot. Guess I need to find another water pH tester. anyone know where I can grab a cheap one?

Ahh yeah, god call, didn't see the other 4. You should pick up the pot when it's COMPLETELY dry. Wait a few days a little dry isn't going to kill your dying plants. Make sure it's very, very dry and pick the pot up. Feel how light it is. Then water the plants. Soak'em pretty good, I mean until water drains out of the bottom (not drown them, just a good healthy watering, hard to overdo it). Then wait until the pot feels as light as it did completely dry again.

It's not a matter of how ml/day. There's no way to tell. In nature it doesn't rain a little everyday. It rains, then it dry's, then it rains, then it dry's, ya get it?

Don't keep it 'a little moist' all of the time. Let it get dry, especially if everyone already said root rot and overwatering. Good luck, might be time to start over. First lesson down, your next ones certainly shouldn't have this problem. Most of the things I now know are from failed crops and fucked up plants, I just try not to see the same problems twice. That's just foolish.

That is the only reason I really started these plants (bagseed) was to see how I would do and learn form mistakes. Wanted to make sure that they looked over watered/oh still and it wasnt something else. Have my good seeds germinating now. Ill let these ones go for a bit jut to see how they turn out, see if they recover at all, then ill kill them off.

Miracle grow soil sucks. that's a bad start already. try foxfarm soil and nutes. like laser said, no need to water everyday. keeping your soil, roots constantly soaked is what causes root rot. you can get a simple to use ph water tester at any pet store. (they use them for fish tanks) . measure ph of the water your using, and if need be, add ph up or ph down. which you can also get at the pet store. your plants have gone through alot... give them ample time to recover by checking ph, not watering so much, and not overheating them. you could probably still recover them at this point but you have to relax and let them decide if they're coming back or not. try not to over think or worry to much about them. the reality of it is that they are simple weeds, treat them as such, and they will prosper. going overboard with any element: light, water, nutes, soil will only cause you problems. good luck and let us know how it goes... keep trying and learning, and you'll see all of your goals become a reality.....

Ill be stopping by the pet store tomorrow then to pick up a better pH tester, and see whether im needing ph up/down.

Ive got the 3 Fox Farm nutes, just not the soil. I dont have a hydro shop or any decent garden shops around here so my options are really only Home Depot/Lowes for soil. They only sell MG stuff. Some scotts and other brands, but only come in the big ass bags. Prob just order some Ocean Forest online from somewhere.

The MG Soil is okay, but then you REALLY need to keep your waterings light. Definitely don't overwater that stuff or it will burn your plants. Try to lean towards underwatering. I have found little seedlings usually need just a little bit of water in the center of the pot at first. Evaluate it closesly and wait until it dries out. After the first week or so it will start spreading roots everywhere and you can start the regular watering routine of watering healthy and waiting for it to dry out completely.

I would skip the peat moss and just do a 3 part even mixture of perlite, vermiculite and the soil. This will allow good drainage (perlite), good moisture control (vermiculite) and keep the amount of MG Soil/Nutes down. Should be able to go a solid month without needing to do anything but add water.

Don't throw all your eggs in your next basket either, just try a few seeds not all of them and not expensive ones. You'll probably have new problems that you'll either learn how to avoid or you'll correct, but once you get to the point where you can veg from seed to about 1 foot plant successfully with good internode spacing and everything is all good, don't waste your seeds.

Once you can do it once you'll be able to do it in your system all day long, just try to keep plants healthy for 30 days, then go for the real deal seeds.

I got a testing kit at a pet store when I was starting out. Make sure you check the range, most of them don't have enough range for growing, they usually stop at 6 or so, and you need to know whether it's 5.5 or 6.5, that's a big swing. If you are having trouble with soil ask for a quality potting soil. Any nursery should have some. I have heard that miracle grow organic is okay in a pinch, but every other MG soil should be avoided.
