Depending on the setup you are using. The airpumps are either used to bring the water from your rez up to your plants..

Or they are used with airstones to help oxygenate ur water.

Water pumps move water, air pumps move air. Airpumps are used to power airstones which sit in a water grow tank and produce bubbles. How many airstones you need depends on the size of the tank, but more is good. Decide on airstones first then find a pump that can power them all. Stones are 2-5 dollars and pumps 7 - 20.
