Military proposes smoking ban on soldiers

When I was in the military the base Commander made the rules. Our commanders always let us Marines drink even the 18-20 year olds and we smoked a lot of cigs. You would hear over the 1MC on board ship that the "Smoking Lamp is Lit" that was the OK signal to go have a cigarette. Smoking to the military is like a bottle to a baby. I Quit that nasty habit years ago, but it was my best friend sometimes when it was really stressful sitting around waiting to kill or be killed.

Speaking as a retired military, BULL SHIT!
Right now, in the USA of course, you can join the military as young as 17. You train to kill, and can be sent to places where you may have to kill or get killed...But it's not legal to have a beer unless your 21.

They took playboy out of the BX/PX years ago. I guess it's ok to kill or be killed, but we are not responsible enough to look at titties and ass?

I have been TDY at places where new recruits could not smoke, but prior service could. I was ok with that, earn the privilege to smoke. Then prior service could only smoke in their own vehicle. Again, sucks being a pinger recruit. Then no one could smoke while on duty. Screw that, I was prior service so I would take lunch in my room and have a smoke. Then you could not in doors, no problem...

Hell, you can't even jog on base wearing headphones because that is dangerous and you may get hurt. WTF, I can't listen to ACDC while running my fat ass but it's ok for me to take a bullet in the chest or put on into someone Else's? WTF.

Hell, when I went through Army Basic, it was a son of a bitch experience. That was a time where you could get your ass beat by the drill sergeant for being an idiot. Now they have "time outs" and "Stress relieve time".

The military has two purposes.
#1 Kill people
#2 Break things

To those who earn the uniform, I say drink, smoke, and read all the porn you want as long as you can still do your job to and if not exceeding standards. If you can still drag my ass to safety when I need it, you got my back and I got yours.

Leave the soldiers and airman the hell alone! They are ready to do great violence on your behalf so you don't need to do it yourself. I say they earned the right to smoke, drink, and look at porn if that gives them a sliver of joy in a job that would make every day people want to kill themselves.

A smoke and a drink may just be what it takes to help someone in the suck make it to another day. Do you really want to make someone who carries an automatic weapon life more of a hardship than it really is?

Considering the paperwork hell they have to go through, if got forbid they get hurt and sent home, to get their deserved medical care...

Again, leave the damn military people the hell alone. They have enough problems and they don't need a damn nanny treating them like a little kid.

Well, personally I think all the bureaucrats should just get the fuck out of everyone's life, but they're REMFs, so what do you expect?

As far as smoking, drinking and watching/looking at porn, what you do is your own business, the state should only be involved if it involves you violating other people's rights to do what they want, how they want, when they want. Smoking does not do this, because ideally it should be up to the proprietors of bars and businesses if they allow or disallow smoking in their place of business, and clearly as sidewalks, and city streets are public property then they should be unregulated zones where people can smoke with out worrying about some anal retentive cop deciding to tell them they can't smoke, because of some anal retentive public bureaucrat that has a hard on against the smoking companies for some asinine reason.

Smoking in the military? Can't have that! We need these guys to be in top shape to defend our "freedom". Our freedom to do what we want...like smoke a cigarette. No wait, never mind.
