when you say trees how big do you really mean???6 feet high and bushy? in that case i would with an outside grow... soil only

it is the case. indoor growing is rarely worth the time without hydro application. even most indoor soil is grown with hydroponic fertilizers and elaborate or automated irrigation systems.
dwc for big bushes and ease. probably the quickest and cheapest way to go for singular big shrubs.

i have a friend who consistently pulls 1#er's in a five gallon bucket. one i remember was 17.6oz bone dry.
i did dwc for a while, until my canopy area got to the point that buckets were more hassle than they were worth....
i've since switched to aero sog, which is more maintenance initially, but easier to maintain in the long run. imagine crawling under those for top off's and refils... however, i did yield very well in dwc, and for 4 or less, it's pretty simple and very effective.

I am using seven gallon heavy amended peat. I only add water during the grow. This is my first time but sub cool and others reg pull eight ounces in ten gallons and such. These are trees.
I am loving the soil, I was in hydro. I heard the taste is better in organic soil than hydro and I am thinking after smoking that it is. Also, I dont think that hydro is that much faster than hydro or more yeild. I watched a study. Individul fruits, in hydro, were bigger but the soil plant had more budsites and was healthier. Overall soil one the test, against a rainforest. This was with chiles and it was done in the magazine maximum yeald.

with a deep feeding reservoir for them tap roots.

You can do soil when you're dead!

no. with dwc, the 5g res acts like the ground, the roots don't comprehend the size of the bucket; there's no such thing as rootbound in dwc, the buckets will be full of roots come harvest (imagine a solid form of roots in the perfect shape of a 5g bucket...). 5g per plant for dwc, it makes the math easier (nute mixes).Thanks Treeth. I think I have decided to go DWC. So your saying the bigger the bucket the better, or less problems that is. \
you also mentioned a drip feed. which one is betteR?
drip feed is an easy way to get fungus gnats. i don't like drip because it continually moistens medium, making the medium a nice home for all kinds of nasties.
krusty buckets (better known as hempy buckets) are not all that great. true hydro like dwc will provide the greatest results.

I think the problem with BIG plants is, anythihjng short of 1000w HPS cant penetrate to the bottom of the plant, anyway. So...what's the point? I mean...why do you want a "tree"? Outside with sun, sure! But inside?
Im just curious as to why you want a BIG one....and what kind of light are you using?

the point is plant count vs canopy. i posted some pictures, and if you take a look you can see that the tops of every branch are level. that's accomplished by toping and allowing lowers to catch up. the bottoms of all branches are stripped, leaving only the canopy. and 1kw is always the best route. the picture i posted is a 6x12 room, and is lit with 3kw. that's only 8 plants in there

any 5g bucket with lid, 3-8'' net pot. for one bucket, a cheap walmart airpump and stone will be fine. for multi buckets spend a hundred bucks and get a commercial air pump. i used a 112w 10 site pump that worked very well.
ps, yes, can use any hydro nutes. i use general hydroponics 3 part, cal/mag, and AN hammerhead.

regarding the reason why I am going to grow trees instead of a SOG type set up is because I would like to stay within my local medical laws. This is the light set up I will be using. (i think its attached)
p.s. ignore the big black thing, it is supposed to be a carbon scrubber..
