hey, so this is my first post! whoop! whoop!

. . .but i'm thinking of growing one(1) plant, nothing special just some snicklefritz, in my room, which is 11 x 11, in the corner behind a door where it'll get plenty of light and stay outta sight.

my question is, how potent will the smell be for just one plant?
what's the best why to rid of the smell?

definitely don't want to get caught!

The smell will probally stink out your house but you can get rid of that with a carbon filter.
there's a loads of diy filter advise on here, check it out!!!

What do you mean by plenty of light? You'll need a whole damn lot of light.

the way my room is set up the plant will be right next to the window, i could even open the window.

the only reason i'm growing inside is cause it's sooo damn hot outside, bout 92degrees right now

I think the question was more to the fact that you cannot grow weed and not get caught with parents in the house. It's illegal to grow, and disrespectful to do it in their house.

If I'm wrong, then that would be what my comment would be to you.

You should do some reading and see if you can try something else. You could do a CPU, or steath cabinet grow that your parents may not find as easy as just behind your door.
That will give you some steath and you can control the environment and smell a little better.

Didn't want to bag on you, but it's important to think about your parents feelings too, if they found out about it (parents know more than you think, they were around in the 60's-70's) likely wouldn't be appreciated.

You're going to do what you're going to do, just my 2 cents.

I'm home from school for the summer, and I'm doing a stealth grow in my closet. It's definitely possible, but I'd dedicate some serious thought to how you plan not to get caught. If I stuck a weed plant in the corner of my room, it would be noticed. Definitely apply some tact, and as pessimistic as it is, give some thought to what will happen if you're found. If your parents would flip their brains, you might want to try a closet, or failing that, a contained grow in a piece of furniture or something. If you use CFL's, you can keep plants pretty compact, so see where you could get them stowed out of sight.

As for smell... That honky will reek to high heaven of skunk unless you get or make a filter, especially during flower stage. It's not even funny how much they smell while flowering. If your parents don't recognize the smell, you might be able to pass it off as a faint, mysterious skunky smell while you're vegging, but in flower, it'll get to be a problem.

Also, don't underestimate how much light you'll need. That was a big mistake I made in my early experiments. Your good friend will want at least 18 hours of very good light, so since the sun probably won't give you 18 hours, plan to either alternate sun with lights, or just go 100% electric lighting. I'd recommend getting about two or three CFL's with as high a wattage as you feel like affording. Three 42 watters would give you good coverage and plenty of light for one plant, and shouldn't run you too much, maybe $20-30 total depending on your store.

I'd recommend looking around a bit for some compact stealth grow setups, there are lots of guys on here with some very tidy little arrangements. Anyway, welcome aboard, absolute best of luck, don't be too serious with your first grow, and cheers!

but how much (estimation) will the set up above be, electric bill wise?
i mean how much will the electric bill increase?

lol.. just thought it had to be said.

If you stick to a small grow, from what I have read from people's journals there is minimal electrical needs.. a few fans and a couple hundred (at most) watts worth of light.
So by doing a small steath grow you'd be adding a comparable 2 X 100Watt lightbulbs in your room.
(assuming CFL's being used in like a CPU case.. a closet you would of course need more light and bigger fans, so it would be a sliding scale... just add up the watts and imagine using 100watt bulbs to imagine what impact it would have. if your energy rate is 7cents/Kwh... you are looking at like $8 a month increase to the energy bill.

i've come with a box that will fit in my closet perfectly, my parents would have to really look in my closet to find it, which they wouldn't cause there would be no reason to
never underestimate (or overestimate) the power of denial
it'll have 3 cfl's, 1 or 2 PC fans for exhaust with a carbon filter, of course, and i'm gonna try using LST or ScrOG

how tall should i make this box?
i would like to keep it at 3 ft, but i can go up to about 4 1/2 ft if necessary, maybe 5 but that would be pushing it

Yeah, it'll effect your bill very minimally. I doubt very seriously that anyone would notice, unless your parents regularly calculate exactly how much they spend down to what lights are on when, etc. The great thing about CFL's is that they take very small amounts of juice to run while still kicking out a pretty respectable quantity of lumens.

Here's a couple of really handy sites, the first is the Energy Information Administration's list of yearly average energy costs by state and sector (in your case residential), and the second is a price calculator. Just check your state's cost, plug in the voltage you'd be using, and voila, you have a rough estimate. Basically, it should cost you more or less $90 a year on the above listed setup.. in other words, nothing to worry about.

As for box size, three feet would probably be all you'd need. If you have your lights a few inches above the plants and put them into flower before they get too big, you can keep them very nice and short. Then again, if it's a permanent size it might not be a bad plan to have a bit of extra room just in case. It basically depends on the space you're using and what you can do. Like I said, three would probably be ok.

I agree with fireowl, 3 ft is likely ok, but I would personally opt for as much as you can. But again, you would be fine with 3 ft from everything I know about steath grows, I'm sure guys have done grows with less too, there's a wealth of experience out here.

well i decided that the eletricity isn't a problem, as long as it doesn't go up like $50 or so, we leave things on all the time so it'll be hard to notice
i plan on drawing up some design plans for my box within the next couple days, so then i can get reviews and criticism and make changes before i actually build it

but there are a few more questions i have:
answer as long or short as you want, yes and no is cool with me
1. ScrOg- correct me if i'm wrong, but basically i get chicken wire/ fence and put it above the plant once it has a couple nodes and as shoots/branches go through i just pull them back through and re-position them under the wire?
2. is this more effective than LST?
3. what are the light cycles, like 24/7 when it first sprouts, then 18/6 to veg, and finally 12/12 to flower?
4. and i can manipulate these cycles(within reason) right? grow them as big (or little. . .lol) as i want and start flowering when they get to preferred size?
5. do seeds go bad?

if u don't wanna get caught, u really need to grow outdoors, and 92 degrees is ok, as long as its not like white russian or some strain that likes cold weather
