Yosemite Area Outdoor Grow

Hello Dragon-
The ladies are fine... getting big. Buddy came by last week to check up on my progress, and tells me that 7 of my 10 from seed stock are females, thinks 1 male, and not sure on the other 2 (still too early). Good news I guess, was planning on 5 males, so the garden is going to be very crowed. I cant do much about expanding the garden this year, I'll just plant less next year in the same spot.
Went camping at Mt. Madonna County Park off HWY 152 between Gilroy/Watsonville. One other family in our campground, the weather was perfect, felt great to be in the Redwoods. 102.7 in the garden as I speak/type...lol.

O.K. here are some updated photos. I put the chair in the garden to use as size reference. You can see that my "Gopher/Mole" defense is working great. (knock on wood) Also i got a few photos of my watering system, well the delivery side. I use a sump pump and a 30 gallon rubbermaid trash can to feed nutes to the garden.

Hello All-
Worked in the garden this morning putting up a roof over the top. I used recycled 1-1/4" x20 foot PVC pipe. Then 5' wire mesh on top of the PVC, very happy with the results. Came back out this evening to do some more work on the roof and I found a visitor in the garden. Pictures below, also tell me what you thing about the new roof.

Hello All-

dude thats fucking badass you should try and cage it up with smaller chicken wire and leave that rattle snake in there til after you harvest then let it go

I pay my son and his buddies (.50ea.) to catch lizards and i put them in the garden to help with the pest control issues i have. Look at photo #9, you can see the half inch wire mesh around the garden, the big lizards cant crawl through the grid, so they hang out there munching on bugs. they do eventuly escape, but i got about 12-15 in there now.

Thanks PaPi- I'll keep checking for signs of showing their sex, i know it's getting close that's why i asked. Anyone else in the Sierra foothills, or California? Hot as hell here today, 104.7 in the garden today @ 2250 ft elevation. It just went under 80 degrees here and it's midnight. Weather man says it's going to be like this for next 7-10 days. Not sure how much heat the plants can take. Should i worry?, do i need to provide shade? I water everyday when it's this hot, in the evenings when the sun is off them. Should i water in the mornings insted? maybe both morning and evening? I see signs of a couple leaves burning, but only on 1 plant. any advise?

I am one of your neighbors. The heat has not really been a problem for my plants, just for me when I work outside. My big concern is animals. I have lost 3 to gophers or ground squirells, 2 to rabbits and am waiting for the deer to find them. Another problem was the rocks in the ground. Idid not make the holes big enough I think, we have very rocky soil with hard clay about 12 inches down. It was a lot of work. I will try to get some teen clones and replant a couple. It is probably too late but wtf. Good luck!

Chicoles- I spent a lot of time/money devoted to pest/animal control. I have the luxery of owning a backhoe. I dug down 3 feet, layed half inch wire mesh down, and around the outside of the dug out area (4ft tall wire mesh, 1ft above ground). Then i went around the whole garden with chain-link fence, 6ft high. I have 5' concrete wire mesh over the top of the garden. The chain link/wire mesh is to keep, Deer, Wild Boar, Rabbits, Raccoons, and theives out. Cant wait till next year, then i could just garden instead of gardening and construction. Bottom line, there are many challenges growing in the Sierra Nevada foothills, weather, animals, rocky ground, helicopters, cops and thieves. I LOVE IT HERE.....lol

And...yes, I've used that chair to "TALK TO THE HAWK" more then few times. I get stuck on an issue, sit my big butt in that chair, bust out the "HAWK" and the next thing you know,...WHAM, i got it all figured out! I luv that chair......LOL

Your setup is impressive. I will try to use your ideas next year.I am doing kind of a guerilla grow in a hidden gully. I carry water and do everything by hand. I do have wire around each plant now. They are spread out, I want to try different spots. Thanks for your inputs.

The lizards work wonders dont they! I thought my grow would be getting mauled this whole time by pests but the army of lizards naturally in my yard have been doing a great job! keep up the good work
