There are a couple of things that could happen. The soil doesn't dry out enough to allow enough oxygen to the roots. I the soil is always wet the roots won't need to spread out to look for it.

You should let the soil get mostly dry between waterings. Then water until you run off out of the bottom of your pot.

Okay great the advice that was given earlier is right on. Have another question though does that pot have drain holes. Now some advice you can get a moisture measure device from home depot lowes for like ten eleven bucks it works. You will notice when it says dry your leaves are drooping. Makes watering for me easy and no guessing.

just stick to water when its dry ive been also reading alot on this forum and it looks like thats the way to go
when it's dry and you water you want to add your ferts. some folks feed everytime, some do a 2 to 1.

make your mixture, ph it to 6.5 or so. then pour it in a little at a time until water starts coming out of the weep holes.

the moistier meter should be the first tool in container gardners must haves.
been growing for a couple of years and still use mine everyday.

the biggest newbie mistakes is over watering and feeding to much.

good luck,kevin

should you water just under the main stock or spread it around the whole area of the soil

I spread mine around. Again it comes down to wanting your roots to spread out looking for water.
