Well ladies and gentlemen, today was a historical day...

This grow has seen the last hours of "sunlight"... the lights have been shut off.

I took a clipping today and I would say the trichomes are about 35-40% amber. Could I wait a little longer? Yeah, probably, but the main reason I've hit the lights is b/c Mary Jane is finally showing the signs of not being fed. She went 3 1/2 weeks doing really well with plain water.

The lights ran for about 4 hours tonight before I shut it off. The reason? I read that some people believe having 24-36 hours of darkness before harvest increases potency b/c the plants have more THC. Supposedly, marijuana plants are most potent at dawn and degrades through the day (same concept as why you don't want weed sitting out in the light, sunlight decomposes the THC). So I am going to give her about 20 hours of darkness and begin chopping her down tomorrow evening.

I'm alright with her cutting down at this point. I actually would like to try the two Master Kushes at different "stages." From what I understand, the less amber trichomes and more opaque, the more of a cerebral high, and the more amber, the more couch-lock, body high.

So tomorrow, I go through the painful task of manicuring again... Mary Jane is getting cut down. This time, I will be manicuring before hanging and to get a feel for that method I'm hoping it will be a lot faster of a process.

Wait til you all see pictures tomorrow... her colas are two big masssssiiive MAAASSSSIVE.... for my grow, least.

So I ran out of my street stuff last night and tonight, I was forced to tap into my new grow... so I decided to go with Jean Grey (Master Kush)... and WOW I cannot believe how potent she is. Love it man, totally gnarly. The high lasted me 3 hours easily, which is the longest that I've had in a while. It was a really great high, mostly in the head, which totally defies that trichomes thing I mentioned earlier (she was mostly amber).

I will say, the taste can definitely improve a lot. She hits really hard and would do very well in an icebong (I'll find out as soon as I get the bong in the mail, should be later this week or next). But she is starting to smell really nice. She is actually not quite try enough, didn't break apart easily in the grinder. I'm going to let her vent out a little tomorow evening.

I'm stoked for you NS. The sun has set and now all that's left is a ton of trimming, haha. But then you get to smoke it all.

I'm glad the smoke from the other girls was nice. Are you happier with it than before?

I too am looking forward to the pics... thow some up of the curing stuff too (i'm sure you would have anyways).

power to the scissors.

Hey all, just a quick update... it's been a couple of busy days at work and long nights of manicuring... exhausted.

My grow box has officially been completely shut down. I spent the last two evenings chopping down Mary Jane and manicuring her. Let me tell you, manicuring while the plant is freshly cut down is WAY FUCKING easier than manicuring after they've been drying for a few days. Unless someone can prove me to that manicuring after they've dried with fan leaves and all will significantly improve potency, I will also manicuring immediately following chopping.

Mary Jane is going to yield BIG TIME. Holy crap she has a lot of bud... even the bud below the canopy were somewhat decent. I manicuring "the twins" last night and wow, they dried a good amount in one day. I finished the remaining branches tonight.

Right now, she's hung up in my ghetto dry box. I'll get some pics up tomorrow night.

P.S. This post might be really confusing or not make any sense at all... i'm really really tired.

Have been busy as hell lately and finally getting around to the pictures I promised a few days ago.

Mary Jane continues to dry, it seems to dry so much faster when immediately cutting the leaves off.

As for Jean Grey and Lois Lane... I gotta say, JG is definitely my favorite. She seems to keep getting more and more potent... but damn I love my Master Kush now.

I'll take some pics of the jarred up shit tonight and get them up later.

Onto the pics:

1. Mary Jane before getting cut down. She was really hurting from the lack of nutes.

2. The Twins before getting chopped.

3. One of the Twins before getting cleaned up

4. After manicuring

5. And the other Twin after getting manicured

6. The Twins ready to dry

7. This was the "top" of Mary Jane. Think this is a cool shot b/c you can see the clusters of crystals concentrated around each bud, and slowly fading out.

8. Mary Jane after day 2 of manicuring. You can see the difference in color between the two colas that were chopped yesterday, the Twins are a little frostier.

9. Close up of the twins

10. Extreme close up... yep, sloppy manicuring.

11. :o

Dude, the manicuring was brutal... man I just didn't have it in me this week to be doing that... the whole time, I just kept wondering why no one ever mentions how much this part of the growing process SUCKS BIG HAIRY BALLS.

But Jigs, oh man, I'm a whole lot happier with my bud now. It's amazing what drying, curing and time does for potency. The Master Kush is absolutely off the hook.

DAAAAAAAAMMMMMMNNN. Those twins are fucking Stacked. Is that a regular size lighter.... seems like it's a mini, but I know it's not.

Are you sure this is your first time growing?

And about the manicuring, I would say that is better than 80% of people do ever. Maybe 90%.

Nice bro. I want some.

yeah, can you believe it? mary jane was the one who's tap root was basically completely torn off during the transplant, she was the one that grew the slowest during vegetating, but she just blew up flowering.

thanks for the compliments man.

NS, great job on the finish! I agree on trimming away as much as necessary while still wet. I chopped a few branches from both of my babies and it took quite awhile to finish. Do you remember when viewing your trichomes what color you had? I chopped the few that had mostly cloudy, some amber heads. Letting the rest go longer. Some of the major fan leaves toward the tops are dried up, some still green. Figure it is signs of the plant finishing up with nutes left for feeding. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Will also re-read your last pages to catch up if you have already answered these inquiries. Also for drying them, was the rule to jar up the buds after the stem bends over without breaking/snapping? Or would you start curing when the stems are at a breaking point? Congrats again on a fine job done. Thx for sharing the journey too.

Oh man... I disappeared for a number of days. Been busy as hell with work and also getting ready for a big weekend (surfing, fantasy football drafts, etc). Not too much to update now that my grow is over.

Mary Jane continues to dry, she will probably get jarred up today or tomorrow. I'll have a weight for you all as soon as I get her jarred up. As for the two curing girls, holy crap they're both potent as hell!

Lastly... MY GRASSCITY ORDER FINALLY CAME IN! I came home yesterday to see a BIG box sitting in my courtyard... and I smoked out of my ice bong last night. Wow it was great. I'll have pics up of the bong sometime soon too.

Just FYI... I may go M.I.A. for a few more days. But I will get back on track with RIU, hopefully next week. Enough acronyms for you?

sorry for the delay dub-void. i've been busy as hell. hopefully it's not too late to answer your questions... i'm assuming you prob also went through my journal and found the answers to your questions... but just in case...

Trichomes:
Jean Grey (Master Kush) - trichomes were like 70-80% amber, all the rest were opaque

Lois Lane (AK48 ) - trichomes were about 50-60% amber, all rest were opaque

Mary Jane (Master Kush) - trichomes were only about 30-40% amber, most of the rest were opaque with maybe about 5% still clear. She was a slow maturer and unfortunately, I had to chop her prematurely.

Curing:
Wait until the branches are snapping and not just bending in half. If you jar it up prematurely, it will take longer to cure/dry in the jar, there will be moisture build up and you will increase your chances of mold in the jar. Jigfresh said he jarred one up prematurely and it is taking a VERY long time to dry.

Hope this all helps man.

Yes it does!! I jarred up a full jar after trimming a few branches and drying those for 4 days. Was planning on harvesting the rest tonight making it week 9 o flowering and 60 days of vegging. Damn, what a waste of labor and care to invite the potential of mold. Thanks for the nicely written summary of your trichome percentages. The few that I chopped earlier (maybe a little over an ounce or up to) had mostly cloudy and maybe 30% amber heads. I guess I could have waited another week, but ... I have plans. : )

Please continue to let us know about your cure for Jean Grey, L. Lane and Mary J. Wish I could trade you some of mine for some of yours. Yours sound like a choice combination. Peace bro!

Well boys and girls, the long waited numbers are in. Mary Jane was jarred up tonight... and it made my night.

With a total of 5 branches... 2 of them being "The Twins" that I've been mentioning throughout the journal. Well, the 3 other branches weighed in at half an ounce. One of the twins weighed in at .51 oz and the other at .52 oz... bringing the grand total weight of Mary Jane to 1.53 oz. Now, I still need to get another weight, possibly a more sensitive one to confirm this.

So, the total for the three:
Lois Lane (AK48 ) - 0.8 oz
Jean Grey (Master Kush) - 1.0 oz
Mary Jane (Master Kush) - 1.53 oz

First grow total according to this scale which I'm not to sure about... 3.33 oz.

Pics:
1. Mary Jane dried and ready to be jarred
2. Mary Jane jarred up (60-some oz. jars)
3. All three girls, Lois Lane, Mary Jane and Jean Grey.
