Polished Stainless Good Or Bad Light Reflector For Walls

it hasn't been discussed a lot. Most of us couldn't afford to put stainless on our walls. If we could we would buy better lights first and just slap some flat white paint on the walls. VV

Or just use a roll of mylar....cheaper and a lot more effective.

The stainless cost me nothing, my mate had 3 or 4 sheets of

2700x900x18mm thick MDF with 2 mm highly polished s/steel stuck to it, left

over from a commercial building job or wrong size... I built the whole room out

of it

that's just an old pic to demonstrate the walls made of stainless steel, the HID is currently approx 2 foot above plants, they were/are still young, didn't wanna suck the life out of them

Here's a good time to repeat this:

Here's the chart of percentages of light reflected from Jorge's latest:

Foylon 94-95
Reflective Mylar 90-95
Flat white paint 85-93
Semi-gloss white 75-80
Flat yellow 70-80
Aluminum Foil 70-75
Black < 10

They say mirrors are not good reflectors because the light must pass through the glass, and that diminishes the reflection. But since you have a mirror-like finish without the glass, it might be up there around 90 percent.

Thanks potroast that sounds pretty good to me if that is the case, I was a

bit concerned it may cause possible hot spots, do you think there is a

chance of this or not?

While I have your attention I have a query on a ball shaped growth noticed

on 1 of my babies today, you seem quite knowledgable as I have read a

number of your posts in the past, can you give me any insight to whether this is a pre-flowre or not please:confused:

Any other thoughts/suggestions from anybody is welcomed

I don't think that you will get hot spots, because the surface is smooth.

That appears to be a preflower, and it appears to be a male preflower. It's hard to tell, though, and you should grow it out, and induce flowering to be certain.

The triplex-node trait is nice, I've seen it once, and if it's a female, she will have a nice yield.

That leaf-edge curling you have is probably from too hot or too dry.

Yeah Roast if the curling is due to to hot or dry then you would be right mate, humidity is only 15-30%, I have 2 towels in there hanging up which dry out twice a day. I water the towels in the morning and before I go to bed, dry each time. The humidity must get sucked straight out as it evapourated off the towels. The temps get to 37 (100) max temp with a min of 20 (55) daily, can't help it with this HPS light in there. I suck air from my sub floor which is always cold... fucks me what to do

Polished metal (85-95%) has about the same reflectance as mylar (92%) without the hot spot problem found with mirrors and the shiny side of aluminum foil. But as someone else mentioned this is rarely brought up because of the cost associated with polished metal. But since your cost is free! no worries!

Or just use a roll of mylar....cheaper and a lot more effective.

most definetly! I went to the dollar sto' and got 2 packs with 6 sheets for 2 dollars. Switched that out with my tin foil that I was using, and noticed a HUGE difference immediatly. It was all of a sudden daylight in my grow space ^_^

:peace: peace

This is good to hear, thanks 468 & Sky, it appears to look dull though... not bright like say white plastic or paint, it is very highly polished though not bright like I would expect

POT ROAST: My triple noder is a female , here's the lastest pic of her and the pre flower, one hair is poking out yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, I noticed this morning that all have female pre flowers with either 1 or 2 hairs, how exciting

Helooooooooooo Ladiessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss look at my pics and be excited with me :hump:
