Does anyone know if a pc fan that moves 12CFM/min is suitable for a 2x4 closet?

Doesnt that work out as all the air in the closet every 45 seconds?

400w HPS 2x4 closet. I thought the idea was to move all the air every five minutes? If so isnt that more than sufficiant?

Its not that simple.. With a fan like that, cfm are misleading when setup to ventilate a large area.. They can't handle any back-pressure..

MIne were colourless, just try all the wires. I had 3 to choose from. no big deal, you wont fry it. PS the Chargers converts the power i believe to make it work, so ther eis no worries on ac vs dc

Thanks4 your advice I have since found a larger version of the same fan that moves over 35 CFM judging by your previous post is it not an exact science when it comes to this sort of thing?

I am looking @ 12v adapters on Ebay, surley once I hav got one I can just plug the fan straight into it without having 2do ne dodgy wiring?

Silenx actually makes a 4 port fan controller that has it's own external power supply. It has 4 channels and can handle 6w/channel. I use one for my mother cab and one for my veg cab. Since this is a controller you can change the speed of the fan.

The rule of thumb about exhausting your room every 5 min is to ensure that the plants have adequate CO2, it has nothing to do with temps. So yes, that fan will be fine if all you are using it for is to bring in new air to your room. But if you are using it to cool the room, you will be screwed. With my 400watt setup I used to use a 465cfm fan. For my 1200watt vert setup I run right now, I have a 747cfm fan and wish I had something closer to 1000cfm.

If you run that tiny fan, your cab will be like 30degrees above ambient temps. So if your house is at 75 degrees, your cab will be closer to 110degrees. With my 465cfm fan with 400watts, my cab would stay like 8degrees above ambients. So if my house was 75degrees, my cab was at about 83degrees. So you can get away with running that small fan but you will need to keep your house at like 50degrees. It will be much cheaper to spend $100-$200 on a fan and not have to run your a/c like crazy.

I have 2 fans hooked up to a 12 v plug...one 120 mm and one 80 mm ...is this fine?...and how many fans can you have on the one plug?

I've gone through it many times, you have to do a tad of math to make sure all your fans together draw less amps than the charger is rated for.. You can overpower the charger, but you run the risk of burning it out at some random unexpected time..

So, if the 5 minute rule is just for CO2, what rule do you use for dissipating heat? I was just about to hook a computer fan up to the 2.5'x3.5'x5' grow room because it only need 9-10cfm. But if that's not going to do anything for the heat and excess humidity, what size will?

There are a few companies that are putting out ac to dc external power supplies with a 4 pin molex connector on the end. CoolerGuys has a bunch of models. The sell cooling systems for entertainment cabinets built around 80mm and 120mm computer fans so they have a lot of items that could be put to use in a stealth grow. One of the external power supplies is 5000mA and they've got some kits that come with thermal controllers.

That's not even a 12v power supply.

this is exactly what I was looking for... I was thinking about using a power supply for a computer and just plugging fans into that... this does the trick even better, and takes up less space.... plus I have no idea if using a power supply would work. Time to go dig for all the old computer parts from 1998
