"Lemon Thai" Grow - Second Week of Flowering!

Just got to the middle of the second week of flowering and thought I would post up some pictures of my tomato plants. These are a lemon thai strain from elite genetics. I was not able to find pictures or a whole lot of information about the lemon thai strain. I do know it is a sativa/indica hybrid, with an above average yields. It is the workhorse used by elite genetics in many of their strains due to it's smell, taste, and above average yields. The "lemon thai" genetics are used in the breeding of "OG Kush".

I am currently 9 days into flowering, and it was in the vegetative state for 2 1/2 months. I started these little guys from seeds (using 100W CFL's) and now have enough clones to begin a proper "lemon thai" grow. I am using a switchable (MH & HPS) 400 Watt magnetic Sunleaves light. The MH is used during the vegetative state (24/0) and the HPS is used for flowering (12/12). The plants themselves are feed using a deep water culture (DWC) setup. The base of the plants sit in a 5" net pot filled with hydroton clay pebbles. The net pots themselves sit in a 14 gallon tub in which I mix nutrients into the purified water. I have a Sunleaves air pump with 4 outlets that runs oxygen through short flexible hosing into airstones that sit at the bottom of the tubs. This is to keep the nutrients properly mixed and to deliver much needed oxygen to the roots.

Note: In the third picture you will notice that I have set up a screen to support the weight when the buds start to weigh down the branches. I also have the top tied down in a "S" shape allowing for horizontal growth. This allows for me to have more room up top for the cola without having to worry about hitting the ceiling.

I spent $220 on the light setup (the ballast/reflector itself, both an MH & HPS bulb, the timer, and the hardware to hang it). The tubs in which they sit cost roughly $30 to construct. All stuff I found at my local hardware store & grow shop. The air pump and air stones were only another $50. That brings the grand total to $300. This is my first setup, I am slowly working my way up to a dream setup.

I am currently in the process of starting another grow room, but have decided to go with some different choices. I bought the Sunleaves Pulsar Two-Way Mini light (the light in the 3rd picture) when I didn't know much about growing, and let me tell you that was a mistake... Never ever buy a light with a built-in ballast. The light weighs a good 24 pounds, making it almost impossible to raise and lower without really putting some effort into it. Because of its weight, I can't use the pulleys that many others use.

You should definitely invest in an electronic ballast with a separate reflector. I am going with the 400 Watt Lumatek Electronic Ballast that has so many more advantages. It doesn't require fans so it runs much cooler, and is silent. The magnetic ballasts are hot and make an annoying humming noise. The electronic ballasts are also much more efficient.

I am also investing in a 6" Can fan and Can filter. I am doing this for two reasons. One is the obvious reason of eliminating smells. The second reason is because I just invested in a Hydrofarm Daystar AC reflector that allows me to vent air around the light, effectively cooling the light before it escapes the reflector.

The room I am working on is going to be my vegetation room. The clones have outgrown the CFL's that have been keeping them alive for the past 2 weeks. I will post pictures when I get the new room setup.
