could a plant turn hermie if...

The only point I wanted to make is that we really don't know with 100% certainty what causes hermies. I recently had a confirmed female clone, that was at least 10 generations old go hermie on me. What caused it? I don't know because it didn't get any stress that I was aware of. Was it buried deep in the genetics of the plant? I can't say with certainty. Why is it that I have stressed the shit out of plants in the past and they didn't hermie? I don't know enough about the genetics of cannabis to say for 100% that hermies are only caused by this or that and not caused by this or that. I don't have a laboratory or the equipment to extract the DNA necessary to test the genetics of a plant. So all I can do is make a guess based on my own observations and that is that I think it is both genetic and environmental. I think the degree of influence depends on the inherited genetics of a given plant. We know that hermies can be created by chemical induction which in my understanding was a form of stress on the plant. Maybe I'm wrong about that and if so I will glady concede that I am wrong. But you've gotta show me hard evidence. :peace:
hey bro didnt u know that anytime u have a different view then luda your wrong...lol

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. This debate has been going on for many, many years. I have a book about cannabis growing that is over 20 years old that deals with this same debate and honestly I don't think much research has been done since.

LOL I put luda on my ignore (only fool on here to make it there, how sad)
he just trys to get under your skin, also then you can't get drawn into any arguments.

Im starting to wonder about light stress causing hermis or not myself, Id done alot to some plants and no hermi
had bad lighting, bad timing, nute/ph lockups all kinds of fun and still more females than males.

Id def listen more to proof than "that's what I know and how I grow and I'm never wrong"

good for you ...........

thats you opinion.
and i only listen to my own experience and my growing skills.
i speak from experience and know how to grow(done it plenty of times).
i am only closed minded when people start talking bull about things they know nothing about,
i have nothing to prove to anyone and if you think thats being a dick then thats just childish.
and yes i am a dick if that makes you happy.

I think there are plenty of people who have grown for a long time here on RIU. I know several very experienced growers personally and no 2 of them have the same idea about hermies. I have grown for over 15 years myself and have seen lots of weird shit over the years but I cannot say with certainty that hermies are caused by this or that. This is just one of those topics that will be hotly debated for many years to come. :joint:

GENETICS AND SEX IN CANNABIS
Sex is an inherited trait in Cannabis, and can be explained in much the same terms as human sexuality can. Like a human being, Cannabis is a diploid organism: its chromosomes come in pairs. Chromosomes are microscopic structures within the cells on which the genes are aligned. Cannabis has 10 pairs of chromosomes (n=10), for a total of 20 chromosomes (2m=20).
One pair of chromosomes carries the primary genes that determine sex. These chromosomes are labelled either X or Y. Male plants have an XY pair of sex chromosomes. Females have XX. Each parent contribute one set of 10 chromosomes, which includes one sex chromosome, to the embryo. The sex chromosome carried by the female ovule can only be X. The one carried by pollen of the male plant may be either X or Y. From the pollen, the embryo has a 50/50 chance of receiving an X, likewise for Y; hance, male and female progeny appear in equal numbers (in humans, the sperm carries either an X or a Y chromosome.)

The most probably answer is yes it will turn into a hermie. fix your lighting, Just wear rubber gloves because we're all stupid on RIU except for me and some other people. If you kill yourself trying to be an electrician to grow some buds don't blame GreenGrowthExpert.

i have read enought on this subject and like i said believe what you want.

It's not about belief. No one can claim to have the answer. Even scientists don't agree. I remember reading something about frogs and how environmental stress causes more of one sex or another. Life is extremely complex even in it's most basic form. We haven't even scratched the surface of what knowledge lies out there waiting to be discovered. Smarter people than you or me have done research on this and there is still debate so if you have the proof please submit it so the marijuana community can put this debate to bed once and for all. Things sometimes aren't black and white. This is one of those areas where I believe there is a large gray area. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

i can actually vouch for you on this one... frogs emerge from eggs as tadpoles... these tadpoles are asexual.... what scientist found (not definitely, they just identified a trend, i'm guessing the level of confindence was less than 95-99%) was that water temperature affected the sex of the frogs. slight, VERY slight variations in water temperature helped decide which sex would develop....

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I knew I had read something about it. It still kind of proves my point that sex even in higher forms can be determined by environmental factors so why can't the same be true for cannabis?
