little confused about yield and lights

hey everyone,im starting my first grow,but there is some stuff im confused about when it comes to the yield and the lights. I have a 600 watt hps grow light. I hear the goal is about 1 gram per what so about 600 grams. I have also heard that the biggier the plant is the more yield you will have. now I was planning on taking my plant out of vegg at about 22-24 inches and having a 48-50 inch plant. but I heard that the light will only penetrate about 18 inches of the plant. so im confused on why you would grow the plant taller then like 25 inches lol. and how the 600 watt will yield anywhre near 600 grams if it only penertrates 18 inches soo thats what im confused about. and one more question the diffrence in the 400 watt and 600 watt how does it yield more just bigger nugs thanks for all the help in advance hope there is no confusion lol

you want an evan canopy, meaning all growing tops at the same hight so they all get the same light... look upfim, lst, sog, and scrog, topping in the grow faq i will post a link

grams per watt is something to think about after you get rollin and work out the bugs.

well you are right u dont really want to grow ur plant real big if ur growing indoors because the light does not penetrate more than a foot and a half into the canopy and as for the the 600 gram rule i personaly have not reached that goal i grow with a 400 watt light and i get like 4 ounces off a 3 foot plant and thats dry weight some people that have been growing for 20 years probly can reach that goal but i woulndnt count on it

ahh more to learn lol wont they all be the same hight if its the same strain and grower and the started at the same time?

That 1 gram per watt calculation is as long as all other factors are optimal. It's also going to depend on the strain. Don't look for 1 gram per watt on your first grow, but who knows, you just might luck out.

oh no I wasnt planning on getting 600 grams lol ill be happy with 3 grams per plant believe me lol

yeah I have an extensive grow journal ive been on the forum for year now and also have been reading book after book and found out all optimal and best things for my grow im not rushing anyhting lol

how much do you think ill yield with a 600 watt with seedsman white widow and if I take the plants out of vegg at 20-22 inches?

look at a plant in its natural form and it has one big top growin up way higher than the rest of the plant you need to cut or train it so its at the same hight as the rest of the plant see


your lower side branches will never catch up with the top growth and will produce crappy little buds rather than big juicy ones. if you get that top at that hight with the rest of em than the whole plant will be getting the same intensity of light and grow big


use all of your light

then i would expect 2-3 onces per plant being that its ur first grow and ur using 1 light i would definatly topp them it has worked wounders for me check out my thred its called !!!!!!!report card!!!!!!! i just posted it and ill get like 12 onces off 4 plants im using 2 400 watt lights

well it is a goal u can reatch considering u do every thing right like topping and not getting nute burn and so on

im not sure how to look up your thread? im doing femm seeds btw does it teach me how to top and when to do it and such?
