First Serious Grow (bubblicious) - Few Questions / Problems (Advice?)

Hi guys, attached are some pics of my 2 plants in my first serious grow.

They have been under a 400w HPS for 3 weeks now after 10 days in my window (delay in delivery on the light).

They were germinated in cotton wool then potted in B&Q houseplant compost and transfered into small pots under the HPS in a cubard.

After about 10 days under the light they showed signs of buring on the tips, i made the typical mistake of over feeding & probibly feeding too early (baby bio 10.6 4.4 1.7) but didnt realise till about day 13 when they got a flush and were transferred to my atic.

I've now set up a section of my atic with the light wall mounted and variable height shelving so the plants can be moved away when they get too close, they are both fanned by a 10" osc. fan and are surrounded by tin foil on the matt side. The foil isnt ideal i know but i'm on a budget so its one thing at a time really. The plants are currently about a foot away from the light.

The plants recovered well from the nute burn and now stand around 8" tall and 10" accross, they have 6 sections (think i mean internodes) on the stem each, which are producing more foliage, the stem is around 1cm think at its widest point and looks in very good shape.

Problem is the leaves have developed one or 2 tiny yellow spots and seem to be drooping slightly, the plants havent been fed for about 2 weeks until today, i flushed and fed them with a weak solution of the baby bio this moring. My thinking this moring was its either lack of nutes or the ph of the soil was out. Was this the right thing to do as i dont have a ph meter or ppm reader.

Next week the plants will be re planted in 5gals and i will be getting some better nutes and hopefully a PH meter and ppm reader depending on how far my money goes.

Any advice or comments much appreciated!

i am growing bubblelicious babies right now also.. they are 38 daze old today.. i had a problem with the tips getting burnt looking n i dint even add any nutes except for the shit i put in my soil mix.. maybe they are real sensitive to nutes so be careful..

Overwatering can lead to dead spots on the leaves. Make sure that the soil is getting dry enough that the roots get air. To prevent root rot you can stir the top half inch of soil to a very loose sand, helps it dry out and get air. Also try adding nuts only when the plant asks for them by yellowing some older leaves to make sure you are not overdoing it.

the overwatering thing sounds about right thesmokering, they are in plastic bags at the moment that origonally contained the compost and they dont allow for much drainage and they stop the fan from blowing accoss the topsoil, i noticed this yeserday so cut the sides down to let air in, drying much faster at the moment.

northwoodsmoker do you have any pics of your grow?

yo stoner, what is your water source like? Are you using tap water or RO or distilled or what? I've seen impure tap water cause leaves to do that. BTW I grew Bubblelicious for a while... monster yielder.

i doubt its the actual water, i'm in yorkshire in the uk, its famed for the quality of the water and the fact its not treated as much as in other areas however i havn't done a ph test. i leave the water in an open bottle for about 2 days before i use it.

Are the plants the right sort of height for the age? around 8" with 6 ints?

Overwatering is one of the most common problems, not surprised here. That soil needs to have good drainage, so go to the local plant store and buy a bag of expanded perlite and mix a bunch into your soil. It works magic for regulating soil moisture. With enough perlite in there, I basically flush every three days and have no problems with overwatering, and it helps keep the salt levels down in the soil so only fresh nuts. Best you can do without going to a more hydroponic medium.
I also doubt its the water, but when you add nuts to water with a bad ph then you get problems so it can help to check the ph if you keep having problems.

i assume by expanded perlite you mean the white foamy stuff almost like crushed stone in the compost? its already mixed into the compost i bought. Think ive just been giving them far too much water and because its not too warm in the atic overnight its taking too long to dry out.

thinking about putting a little oil radiator in the room on a thermostat to keep temps up.

if it is taking too long to dry out then more perlite next time will help. What temps do you have?

I think Bubblelicious just as a strain itself is a hard strain to grow. You have to have like everything perfect. I tried to grow it with ten other bag seeds that I did with the paper towel method and three out of ten germinated. Most all my bag seeds germinated. Then out of the three that germinated, they were the shittiest of them all. Either I had bad seeds OR I may have stored them for too long and not in Cold but so were the others soooo...not really to sure. But generally a lot of plants end up having like tip burning and just different colorations and they could be symptoms to many things and thats the problem. Like one that I haven't heard yet that could be the problem is the Ph. Im not sure if you mentioned the Ph or if you care about the ph but that could also be a possibility. Until I have my perfect grow room thats in the process of being made I probably wont even try to grow bubblelicious. To much of a hastle if you asK ME

to be fair, i bought 5 seeds, all of which germinated, i started out with 2 in my window, i had no idea what i was doing, the plants got damp and rotted at about 3" so i binned them and did a little reading, still didn't really know what i was doing with the 3rd, planted it in my cubard with a halogen light, the plant grew about 2 feet tall but was well stringy and hardly had any foliage on it, it burnt, i thought this was the light but thinking back it was prob the nutes. still, i'm glad it died cuz its what brought me to this site.

got up this moring and one of the plants looks a bit worse for wear, its drooping after 14hrs of light, guess its too cold and too damp so ive put an electric blanket under the plants to warm the roots and the soil and get rid of some of the moisture. the room temp is around 20c under the light but with the fan on its more like 15c.

i raked over the top soil last night and its dried out a little but its still too damp so i hope the blanket works.

i think i'll be investing in a ph reader and a thermometer when i get paid this week, wish i had known all the tools i needed before i started, i was a bit nieve, thought i could just put them in some mud and leave em too it...
