cfl compared to 150w hps

got one fem lsd from barneys farm 14 days into veg. if i were to use 4 42w cfls that i got from lowes, would that suffice? im not looking for a huge harvest, i used an enclosed 150w hps and got 23 dry grams. could i come close to that with the cfls? using flora micro grow and bloom for this grow.

Sounds to me like it will produce the same thing. 42w cfl is equlivent to 75 watt bulb right. surround the puppy with them. I bet you do better with them.

I think that if positioned correctly the cfls would veg just as good if not better than the hps. Your yield will probably substantially less. if you do go with cfls use 6500k for veg

more lumens = more growth

150 watt Hps = 16,000 lumens

1 42 watt Cfl = 1, 600 lumens....

my experience with 150 hps is a good one, but i also supplement with 4 42 watt 6500 daylight bulbs

ive grown a couple oz from 4-42w cfl, they work great, make sure you have good reflection around them, you could get 2 oz easy with either one.

that's actually
1, 42 watt cfl =2982 lumens
and
150w CFL = 10,605 lumens.

atleast do your math before you make such arrogant posts. yes HPS is better, but it's not 3 TIMES better...

Easy Tiger...

I said 150 watt High Pressure Sodium (Hps) = 16,000 lumens

150 Watt - High Pressure Sodium - 16,500 Lumens - Medium Base - ANSI S55 - C150S55/M PH - Philips 303479

42 Watt CFL - 150 W Equal - Halogen White 3500K - Spring Lamp - TCP 28942-35 Initial, Lumens: 2,800

That comes to like 5.8 42 watt CFL's to equal one 150-watt when you are comparing lumens and since you can’t purchase .8 of a CFL you might as well just go and say 6 of them is what would be needed.

I am not a CFL guy so maybe I am wrong but if it would take six 42 watt CFLs to equal one 150-watt HID in lumens wouldn’t that mean the CFL grower would be burning 252 watts of electricity to roughly be equaling the amount of lumens a single 150-watt HID would produce?

If so why wouldn’t they just use a 250-watt HID and have 29,000 lumens for the wattage they paid for and only got 16,800 lumens for?

I USE 150 WATT HPS AT TIMES. I used to grow only one plant at a time. Take my word for it.

Doesn't matter what anyone here is saying... this all depends.

The CFL's can each get within an inch of multiple budsites (you can have 1 at the top and the other 4 close on each side). The 150watt HPS can only get close to one bud site and the rest go to hell. The HPS is worth it ONLY if you are able to have it close to all the bud sites.

If you want the best and more abundant harvest, supercrop or top or LST the plant..... get it so that the bud sites form a canopy rather than a single cola. If you try to use the HPS on a regularly shaped plant you have to keep it atleast 6 inches from the main cola... and anything more than 18 inches away is nearly non-existant. You will get 2x the yield but if you supercrop or top it may take another 2 weeks to vegetate the plant.

If you want your buds sooner, and want a large cola with some smaller (but still decent) buds... use the CFL's and grow it regular. You can get the cfl's very close to the bud sites (if they are 2 inches away from the bud sites, they are getting more light than they would 6 inches from the HPS). However, you will only be able to have a couple of good bud sites, the others will suffer.

The HPS can cover a 2x2ft area decently, if you keep it 6-12 inches away from the top of the plants. Your BEST option is to grow the plant in a 5 gallon bucket and LST it until it's ready (or top/supercrop it and wait another week or 2 since the growth will be slower). Then use the HPS to flower it.

If you use the CFL's you'll probably get about 3 ounces dry
If you use the HPS without supercropping/topping/LSTing the plant you'll probably get about 2 ounces dry
If you use the HPS and supercrop/top/LST the plant you'll probably get about 5 ounces dry.

My first plant I grew in 3 gallons and flowered close under the Hps without trimming and got almost 2 ounces dry. The clones, when topped so that they formed a canopy gave nearly 4 ounces dry(one plant).
