Socialism Makes People Worse

By Dennis Prager
Under socialism, one is not only liberated from having to take care of oneself; one is also liberated from having to take care of others.

Not sure if i really like this statement, it's simply a system (in a perfect world), that offers many benefits to a low income generating minority.

Now, you can see where in some countries this works, obviously it's not been perfected yet.

Caring for your fellow man is going to be subjective (of course), but why would socialism make you turn your back on another? doesn't capitalism do that, through greed from profit??

In a perfect world, a system of governance wouldn't be necessary.

In this world, capitalism is the rising tide that lifts all ships. Socialism is rust. Take your pick.

The socialist idea sounded altruistic to those who began it, and it sounds altruistic to the naive who believe in it today. In practice, however, it creates self-centered individuals and a narcissistic society..

This sentence right here makes me want to stop reading his work.

The person that wrote this is clearly out of touch with reality and i would venture to say that his annual full frontal lobe check up is way past due.

This sentence right here makes me want to stop reading his work. If you can't argue the merit of someones argument without resorting to besmirching your "opponents" intelligence or sanity, you're probably an idiot, or just plain nuts. :eyesmoke:

No matter how pure their motives, the Left makes America and its citizens less noble people, just like the spoiled French students.

Ugh, ok i thought i was done here.
Ok, repairing the economy every 4 to 8 years makes the U.S. democrats look like spoiled French students?

Ok, this is starting to make me laugh now.

Dennis has a skewed view of economics (IMO), he may have some work that i can learn from, but this thread (with the content in the first post), makes me think that he just typed up some text when he was pissed off in France when nobody wanted to speak to him in English.

Wanted being the operative word. Most all speak English, but are too arrogant to admit it. Unless they're vying for your American buck...

He got suckered, and fell for it. That's what it sounds like. (Guessing most Americans that visit France probably get treated the same way).

I like how you are calling them arrogant though. The French were the biggest cowards in both world wars, i fail to see how on earth that they can possibly be arrogant with that kind of track record.

So, in your first paragraph, you admit the French treat Americans badly.

In your second, you admit that they, ze French, owe their very existence as a autonomous nation to Americans.

Pretty arrogant, wouldn't you say?

PS- Hell, you could even say, "Socialism makes people worse", couldn't you?

Ahh, you were trolling, and following along, props to you for that.

I'll bite though, i love a good debate.

You could make the claim that socialism creates arrogance, but you would be in the same place as Dennis here.
His writing and ideas are what i have a problem with.

It's simply a stance.

I'm not saying that socialism OR capitalism is the best way to go, they both have their pros and cons.

I don't know if it was intentional or not, but +rep for the irony of this statement.

Edit: on second thought, no rep for you. The irony was clearly not intentional.

Yes, exactly. This why a pure socialist state or a pure capitalist state would not be successful. Socialism balances out the inequality that capitalism creates, and capitalism allows for more economic diversity than would be possible under complete socialism.

Pure, unadulterated, crap.
