Ok would you give me a link or a name for these sensors?

I am over protective but then I got it all riding on this so w/e...

I've been pretty good about learning first before fucking things up...

Ask questions FIRST...right?

Thanks for all the help.

Why is that EVERYONE ELSE can leave their plants in the dark?

Why do you have to adjust the pH during dark? I adjust mine ONCE A WEEK!!! DURING LIGHT HOURS!

What kind of system do you have that cannot be left unnatended... seems like something is off...

I can leave my shit alone for days...weeks sometimes...

Why can't you allow dark to be dark?
the reason why i have a light problems is because i didn't foresee the fact that my wife has to get up and piss in the middle of the night, she might forget not turn on the bedroom light or the bathroom light that could possibly leak into the grow closet. the room itself is lightproof, which when i initially set up the closet factored that in, and not the wife factor. im now ready to flower, and if i dont flower soon with the limited space i have, be out of room. there fore i was hoping for a quick fix rather than light proofing, but candle light and light proofing it is.

I have seen grows here on RIU that took DOUBLE TIME and gave half the yield... because of light leaks...

In MY grow... you can be in there for HOURS, and you would still not see your hand in front of your face... it's pitch black... regardless of what time of day it is outside...

gotta figure it out bro... or you will have troubles...

I have used cardboard boxes to make light traps like this one before....

that looks like a good idea do u just tape the card board together in that fassion or do u have any surefire techniques (i.e. certain kinds of boxes....ect.) any ideas u got wanna hear em thanx

If this issue is so important just go get a night vision goggle or use the night vision mode on a camcorder and hook it up to a PC/TV. VOILA!

Ha ha, just what I said on post 24:roll:. Or you could just get some patience and not mess with the pumps:confused:. I have pumps that are 4 years old and still chugging strong. Seems like you need a simpler system if your that worried about it. Hang a tarp and setup light traps. Light can't make two 90* turns.

Your all right. After considering what you said about not going in your room for hours...days...I think I can too.

My shit is just as automated as most of your guys shit so why can't I?

Just being paranoid about not being there when shit goes down.

An alarm to alert me of pump failure would be awesome.

In an aeroponic system, if the pump fails your plants will be ok for nearly 8 hours. I have (accidentally) tested that one myself. I forgot to plug in the pump and got it later, plants recovered well.

I'm not doubting that yields have been cut in half because of light leaks, but how would you know that was the cause?

my question is why does it matter??

why not do all the work you need to do when the light is on ??

there is no reason to have a light on when they are sleeping.
Many times I come home late from work and there is something I have to do in the grow room that can't wait until morning.

For this reason, I have a green light in my room and another in the hallway outside (just in case someone flips on the hall light during the split second I have the door open.)

I do not have the light on regularly....just for emergencies. I did not get a "ton" of seeds...none on my last grow in fact.

I think the important thing is that the greenlight is for emergencies only - I know and have seen plenty of growrooms that use them this way without issue. I did find one set of bananas on another plant during my first grow - but I think that was due more to the plant's need for procreation than anything else. And that first grow yielded a few grams shy of 1/4 lb off 2 small plants - haven't found any seeds yet.

Good Luck

I realize that this thread is old as F*ck but I feel that no real information was given at all. I've been using green lights for years now and have never had any negative side affects. Especially Seeds or Hermies as stated in the earlier pages.
Please take a look at the following pages. Its advice from an expert just like some people in this thread were asking for.

This is the main page.

This page and This page are more directed to the subject of this thread.

Again sorry for bringing an old thread back to life but I felt it needed more information.
