Hello people,
OK... I have a grow cab and I am limited to growing up to 48" high.
(the veg area and flowering area are 14" x 18" x 48" high) I would like to put 4 pots 7" square . I plan to veg for a month and then goto flower. Will these 7" pots be large enough to sustain the plant throughout both cycles?
Or should I go with just 2 plants at a time in bigger pots?

I use a 7 inch square pot and it works great for the whole life of the plant, they are not too big and not too small
Just right :blsmoke:

Would I be better off with 4 x 7" pots or 3 x 8" pots. Which ones would give me a better
yield?

In the veg space I am using 4 x 24" sunblaster t-5's 6400k mounted on sides ( 2 per side) and 1 x 45w 6400k cfl mounted on top.
Flower side is 4 x 42w cfl 2700k.

I would go with the less plants in bigger pots because you don't have enough light for 3 plants let alone 4

i have a 125w cfl that I could switch to instead of the 45w , but I thought that would be too much.

Each 42w cfl = 2800 lumens x 4 = 11,200 lumens

What should I use (cfl wise) for the 14" x 18" (1.75 sq/ft) area?
Well if you are trying to use CFL's than just get more 42 watters
A 250 watt HPS puts out like 27,000 lumens
The same amount of wattage in CFL would put out 16,800
That is a big difference in brightness
250 watt of HPS puts out the same amount of heat as 250 watts of CFL
CFL's are mistakenly thought to be easier to cool because there 250 watts of heat is spread out but with HPS it is in one spot coming off the bulb
I find it easier to cool the one HPS bulb rather than the 6 42 watt bulbs

True True.. 250 watt HPS isn't even that hard to cool IMO... For 3 days, until i had proper ventilation in my room, i just had the door barely cracked during lights on and only noticed a temperature increase of 5 degrees..

Now in a smaller area like you have, that might be a bit harder.. I would definetely reccomend HPS over flouresents.. no experience w/ CFL's, so i can't say there..

What if i used 2 x 125w cfl's instead of the 4 x 42w cfl's? I would imagine that there would be more heat in the cab as well right?
It just seems that thats alot of light for such a small area though.

If you are going to use 250 watts you have to use HPS
It makes absolutely no sense to use the same amount of wattage just to get a shit load less lumens
Get the most out or your lights

Well...I guess I'll only grow 2-3 plants under what I have now.I started this thread about container sizes and ended up with lights.:???:
I'll see how it goes this grow and adjust accordingly.
Thanks for all your help tom +rep

I use three gallon pots that I think are about seven inches across. I would go check but its a dark room right now. As for everything else what tom says sounds good to me.

OP, this is my first post so take anything i say with a grain of salt...a large grain...like one of those that cows lick on....

I am putting together my cabinet and have a very similar problem. My cab is 15"wide, 44"tall and 45" long. I also would like to go with those "Rose buckets"..7x7x10 I think...they hold almost a gallon of medium. Look into grow bags...I think there is one out there that is 1.5g and lots of places have 2g's. They tend to be a bit taller and more slender per volume compared to plastic pots.

One thing you didn't mention was whether you are using seeds or clones. In my research into this problem, it looks like the best approach to maximize your heigth is to stagger your first set of clones going in at varying heights and determine how much time in veg is needed to allow full stretch during flowering and not run against your lights. With seeds you may have different phenos with varying heigths.

Great idea with the grow bags. I've started out with seeds, but in plastic beer cups so they need to be transplanted in about a week or so.
Thanks for the input
