Cloning question...

I have a question that will sound stupid I'm sure. I've not cloned before and would like to learn. I know the process but I am confused about one thing. If you have 4 plants that have not sexed yet, how do you know which one to clone off of? Once they start sexing, we destroy the males but then the females start to flower. I thought we can't clone off a plant that is in the flowering stage. So how do I go about this?

Take clones and throw them into 12/12 once they root, and wait for them to show sex.
Leave the mothers in veg untill you know which are females - pitch the males and you are set.

Yea i second that BUT do you have the room to keep 4 plants in veg until then? If not chill out until your plants show there sex then clone.
This is your first time cloning and you dont wanna over doit.
I mean yea its great to have hella lil gurlz all ova the place but if your not ready for them they can be a pain in the ass.
Trust me when i started out i had trouble out the ying yang i took clones on top of clones and the next thing i know i had more then i could handle.
My flower room couldnt fit all the clones my mothers where producing, and you sure dont wanna be sitting on 20 ta 30 mother plants.
Because once they get rooted you gotta deal with more dirt more nutes and so on so keep it simple peace.........

Okay. Four plants. Excellent.

Cloning is nowhere near as daunting as it first appears. Relax and have fun.

Cloning for sex is one technique. Too much trouble IMHO.

Males show generally sex first. Eliminate them. Easy.

After the males come and go, you could take a calculated risk and clone everything remaining at this point. Probably your best bet as a new clone guy. ;-)

Or you could wait a little longer. When the females show sex (pre-flowers), you can clone them.

I have even cloned after flowering phase began. However, if you choose this technique you should select cuttings from the lower branches which do not yet show signs of flowering.

Good luck and good growing.

How old does the plant have to be in order to clone?
It all depends some strains show sex at 4 weeks some alil bit longer but when you see them female pistals its all to the good HAPPY HR.
Theres pics on here thatll show you what females look like i gottm but im kinda on the lazy side right now lol bongsmilie

Ok thank you. I'll try that.
I usually have clones so they are females.

But...I have really good success with a basic powder rooting hormone, foam jiffys and a T5 bulb in a cheap cloner dome set up.

You know that little 45 degree cut at the bottom of the stem of your clone...cut that stem into 4 - 6 little pieces and it will root better. Basically cut up the stem with a blade to make little pre-roots so to speak. Dip in water right away then dip in rooting powder. Stick in Jiffy then stick into chamber. 24hrs of light and spray those leaves for a few days...

That should get you going.

I sucked at cloning but after a few batches my success rate is now near 100%. Like a previous poster it isn't hard. Just jump in with all three feet and don't be afraid to try!

"you can do it"

Some strains root really fast, like 5 days. Once my gut tells me they are rooted I stop foilar or spray feeding. If you keep feeding water through the leaves it has no need to rapidly grow roots. Sometimes you can tug on the clone (I know not recommended) to see if it's rooted. If it's rooted give it water by spraying the foam, not the leaves. Once they root they get pretty thirsty.

Cloning is fun. Get yourself a big mom so you have lots of clones to experiment with.
