336W Super Small Cabinet, Chocolate Chunk LST

I designed this cabinet last summer, in July, and grew six Chocolate Chunk plants with LST. Four of them turned out male (BUMMER), but two of them turned out as female. I still have some of the bud left over since I am a light smoker, but they turned out GREAT. It is some great smoke. I got just over 1.5oz per plant on this setup, but since it was my first grow, I didn't expect much. This time around, I do expect to get more of a yield. I only grow in one gallon pots using Fox Farm Happy Frog straight from the bag, no perlite added. My previous grow, I did added perlite (maybe too much), and it couldn't hold water very well.

The box I grow in is 28"L x 20"W x 30"H. You may notice that I built it all. Why did I do that you may ask, well, I guess I don't really have a real reason. A Rubbermaid tub would work just as good. I bought two small fans from Target and clipped the guards off so that I could mount them onto the box the way I did. This keeps the box at about a constant 66F at night and about 83F during light hours.

I designed a very crude, but useable, adjustable hanging light. All I do is tie all of the ropes together into a knot, and it will hold the whole system. I also used light sockets. I could have used power strips and some outlet -> lightbulb converters, but I wasn't aware those existed at the time, so I went with this.

I placed a Rubbermaid lid in the bottom of the cabinet to catch the water that goes through my pots. Standing water and wood equates to rot. This was a great way to solve that problem.

I have four plants this time around, current at about two weeks in from seed (18/6 light cycle). The plants are looking great. I am currently battling a magnesium deficiency in one of the plants, but it is looking better.

Yeah man, I actually keep the box in a large closet and its completely out of sight.

I would reccommend doing this with a rubbermaid, if you can. Building this thing was sort of a pain in the ass. Just get some mylar, fans, a timer, and some lights, and you're ready to rock. You could still build that adjustable ballast similar to mine!

What are you cats out there using for the flowering stage? Is that Tiger Bloom stuff just a regular nutrient mix, but has a higher potassium content?

Holy crud, your cabinet is quite professional! I'm loving the fan set up you have in there. You're just using PC fans wired into a/some 12v adapters it looks like?

I truly need to get more fans moving air around inside of my box. I do have some PC fans at my disposal, so I think I will try to find a way to get those going soon... I have a 70W HPS and some 2700K CFLs for flowering...so hope I can get some real good looking buds.

I ended up with popcorn buds last time around. Would really like to have a 400W lamp to help me with my flowering so I can get those tight buds like in yours, and many others, photos.

yah im using your typical 4" computer fan hooked up to a 12v adapter it works awesome! 2 fans to 1 adapter. the adapters have a voltage range from 1.5v to 12v which means i have speed control which mean i have temp. control. yah more fans never hurt good air flow is very important but do many fans can kill the humidity and dry things right out... good to have a nice balance my humidity sits at 45% constantly. as for lights i would love to use a low watt hps but i already have my large cfls which should do the trick just as well when close enough. hopefuly turn out some nice big dense nugs. anyways look forward to seeing you around my grow i will be watching yours aswell. Cheers DW

I foliar fed the plants an epsom salt solution as well as watered them with one a few days ago in an effort to combat a magnesium deficiency. Hopefully they will have responded within the next few days.

My biggest plant appears to have two colas, for some reason. I haven't topped or FIMed at all (yet), but my biggest and oldest appears to have two colas coming up. Any ideas whats up with that?

Update for today...

I trimmed the dying leaves on the plant experiencing the magnesium deficiency. The rest of the plant looks healthy. All plants are looking great today.

so did the epsom salt work? i have never foliar fed... i really wanted to but my lil beast started flowering a lil sooner than i thought it was and ran out of time to foliar feed... i read somewhere that you shouldnt foliar feed while flowering... so like always.. i am playing it safe instead of being sorry... let me know if that helped any.. would like to try it out on my next plant or maybe even this one once i reveg it... any new piks? whats a journal without illustrations rite?

the branching of colas may be strain related or genetics... did your last choco chunk do that on you? even a lil? if not, i'm not sure, but i def. wouldnt be complaining.. you get more bud with more bud sites... i doubt that answered your question at all... but it is mho... so hope it helps at least..

Yep, foliar feeding has helped my plants, both past and present, a lot. It provides a great quick fix to get your plants back on track. I only foliar fed the one plant, the rest I fed magnesium through soil means, but they are looking WONDERFUL. Some new pics to come by the end of the weekend after they have been moved to a new location :)

Yeah, I was confused about the dual colas on this particular plant. I didn't do any topping, but yeah man! Pretty stoked about it. Hope it turns out to be a female. I won't see preflowers for a while, but I plan on hitting the flowering cycle before I find out. I would love to know...mostly so I can get some damn clones!!!

I'm pretty stoked to start up a grow similar to yours...growing in the smallest gardens. I think I plan on doing two plants 12/12 from seed in a small tupperware container with two 42W 2700K CFLs, and of course sufficient cooling. How does the cooling work in your PC case? Pretty well? Do you happen to know the specs on your fans (namely CFM)?

I am currently in about week four of vegetative growth. I am soon to beginning the flowering stage, hopefully this week. The plants range from about 3" - 5" in height and are looking very healthy. The shortest plant appears to have grown out as two main colas.

I was interested in checking for preflowers this time around (I didn't do that the first time), but none have showed up yet. I plan to wait this week out to see if maybe anything will show, but at this early in it's life, it probably won't. Depending on how many females I get out of these, I will be cloning one of them.

I have been feeding about every three waterings, giving them epsom salts about once a week, and temperatures are maintaining about 65F - 70F at night and about 84F during daylight hours.

Today, I will feed the plants a nutrient mix of 1.5 fluid ounce of H2O2 and about a teaspoon of Alaskan Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1 to a gallon of water and distribute evenly.

Next watering I will probably be flushing, then feeding them the magnesium solution I have made.
