400w HPS 24/7??

Hello guys,
i aint usialy one to write in this section of the fourms but its one of those newbie questions...

I was reading a thread here and they were talking about HPS lights on for 24/7 while in veg will increase the yield, could someone tell me if this is true or not?

This is a 400w HPS and could get very hot in there, plus very expensive... would it increase the yield alot (is it worth it for the increased energy bill) or should i just run on 18/6 then go 12/12 when i think its time for flowering??

Errrmmm......holy poo that would be a hot lil biatch. I like to stick with the tried and true ways of our fellow ancestors...hehe. Just stick to the 18/6 and 12/12 man. Think of it this way, were tryin our best to replicate good ole mother nature.

I run mine 24 hours......the longer the light is on, the bigger the plant will get....more branches = more tops = more bud

My electricity cost is around $15 -$20/month

man im doing SOG... i want small compact plants that have ALOT of bud. thanks 4 suggestion tho m8... i might stick to 18/6... unless some1 gives me a good vaild reason why i strictly shouldn't... that mother fucker is going to burn my plants unless i turn the lights off for atleast 4 hours...

Guys, dont plants need darkness for their hormones or something? i swear i read this somewhere because otherwise nobody would ever do 18/6...

lol mate il take ur word for it, i see where you come from but with a grow box like mine and with vents like mine, i think if i ran 24/7, either something would give (electrical), the lot will catch fire when im out or it will become up 2 90 in there

try getting a biger exhaust fan and run 24/7 iv tryed this and yes your plants grow quicker but allso when u put them into 12/12 they will produse more clorophyll and biger buds ,i found it allso makes the stem stronger ,,,but runnin 18/6 is allmost as good ,its really about how much you want to put into it

Hey guys, I thought id post this here since i answered my question and should answer anybody who is reading this questions...

Light - Plants needs a rest. Recommend 20/4 for veg. Plants do better (produce more carbos) with less light over a longer period of time than alot of light for a shorter period of time. There is a point of light saturation where more light will work against you by bleaching out the lifeblood of the plant - chlorophyll. .

Actually, that quote shows that Uncle Ben thinks that we shouldn't have our light on 24/0.

I've yet to hear a valid reason not to run my all day, every day, and will continue to do so.

My plants aren't stunned or bleached, nor do they seem to be telling me that they're tired and could use a nap.

24/0 will not give you more yeild it will give you faster vegetative growth but you will have a healthier root ball with a dark period.......roots keep growing at night

sounds like this one is a matter of personial opinion. I think il stick with the book and run my 400w HPS at 18/6 for my first grow just need to quiet the fans down abit since i am going to be sleeping in the same room as i grow and at the moment, the fans will keep me awake :S

give it a rest. 18/6 is good. think about vegging for 6 weeks and tying down stems so the side shoots will develop.

Yes you can run 24/7 but is it worth the extra electricity and reduced life span of the light bulbs

Our experiments concluded that 24/7 did prevail in the early weeks, but at the end of the grow the 20/4 produced the highest yield.

I'm running a 200 watt cfl for 6 hours and a 400 HPS system for 18,the plants are 5 weeks old from seed and are looking mighty fine.. i only run the cfl to give the ballast a break from constant running,cuts the bill (a bit) and give the plants a little break from the hid.. although,with my cool tube and the 400 its 24.7 c in veg which is perfect,i have no complaints... moving up to my 600 for flower with me luck!
