My plant is 10 inches tall and about 6-7 weeks old now.

When should i start the 12/12??
How do i clone it?

I want to clone the plant then put it into flower to determine the sex as i got the seed from some bu i bought....was not a feminised seed.

Should i flower the clone or the actual plant?? My thinking is......clone the plant, plant the clone to grow, flower the main plant to determine sex....if female, keep the clone going then take another clone......or flower the clone???? like i say im new to all this growing :)

Ive added a couple of pics, ones got a yellow line.....is this where id take the clone from???

This is terrible advice, first of all you want to clone it while it's still in the vegetative state......or you will spend 3-4 weeks reverting it back to the vegetative state. Second you want to clone from the lowest branches, this is where the most hormones are and the easiest piece to root. Older branches are easier to root than newer branches. You don't have to put it into 12/12 to find out if it's a female, if it's 6-7 weeks old it should already have preflowers or be forming them. Sex should be determined BEFORE you switch to 12/12, otherwise you just wasted a bunch of time and diminished your yield.

i agree wit the doctor the guy earlier is giving you terrible advice. like he said u want to clone from ur lower branches. and also if u wait a little longer maybe a week u should be able to see the preflowers. u also may want to check youtube and watch a video so u can get the proper technique for cloning.:bigjoint:

I am in the same exact boat as you bro, except I used feminized seeds. Start by looking at the trunk of the plant. Then move up until you find the first true set of branches (not fan leaves). You want to cut these as close as you can to the main trunk of the plant. Then, cut the stem of your newly cut clones so each one is the same size. I soak mine in Olivia's Cloning Solution and then use Olivia's cloning gel and pre-soaked rock wool to root them. Works great! Check for preflowers bro. They look like little tear drops. They are at the axils of the plant. Search for "preflowers" on here and you will find some images if you search long enough.

Here are preflowers before they open and just after they open on a female. My plants get light 24 hours a day, and I still get them around week 7.

No it is not, all weed grows preflowers while still in the vegetative state around the 7th week. If your flipping your lights to 12/12 to sex your plants your only hurting your own harvest, if you left them in vegetative growth until they were sexually mature you would know what the sex is and your plants would be bigger before you induced flowering. So I still think that was horrible advice, and that is not my opinion but purely fact. The section you told him to clone from is the hardest part of the plant to clone from. I would not waste my time with autoflowering strains, I would personally like to eradicate the autoflowering strains so that their pollen never infects any of my plants. bongsmilie

Heres a close up of my stem....my plants roughly 6 weeks old. Are these the pre flowers or are these branches???

Those are the stipules, the preflowers will form right behind those when the plant is sexually mature. Usually starting around the 4th to 5th node.

During the next 2 weeks more than likely. What light cycle do you run ?
18/6 will show the quickest
20/4 is next
24/0 will take longer to show

I run 24/0 and it's usually around the 7th week or the end of the 7th week.

that where the preflowers will be but i don't see em yet, keep looking right in that spot,in another week or so you should see 2 white hairs coming out if it is a female, females show their sex earlier than males,so if you don't see any white hairs in a week or 2 i would start thinking it is a male.im just saying this from my experience but others may know more,so hang around for the real pro's to chime in on this

Im on 24 hours of light. Im using a 600w HPS 12hours, and 500w normal lights for the other 12 hours.....electricity is too expensive here to run the HPS 24/7

watts are watts in doesnt depend on the type of light a 600w hps will cost u just as much as a 600w flouro. but the 600w hps will be MUCH brighter they have the best lumen-to-watt ratio therefore its the most cost efficient but if ur just growing that one plant u might want to get something smaller maybe a 150w hps. but in the long run the 600w hps is the best light u can use.:bigjoint:

Not sure how much you get charged per kWh but you would probably be better off running the hps all the time. 100 watts isn't really saving a lot and you could make up that difference in electricity by switching all the bulbs in your house to energy saving bulbs and turning the water heater down a bit. Use this calculator to determine what the difference is in cost, even at 15 cents per kWh the difference is only $10 a month. Don't get a smaller setup, if anything make the most of what you got. If you only have one female use super cropping to make it a big bush and get more bud. :leaf:
