oops. I've been gone for some time now, but I pledged a while back. (money trouble). All I've got is $1200 bucks to spend and I want to get my grow started, it's my first one, so I'm trying to make sure I can get it all, there aren't any hydro decent hydro stores here, so more than likely I'll be ordering everything online. I've been hearing some bad feedback with tents though as far as problems in the future, I want to grow an easy indoor indica strain. I got some seeds from nirvana almost a year ago, don't know if they're any good anymore though, I've been keeping them in the same plastic bag stowed in the dark. What do you guys think? I want to personally thank Dystopia for giving me all the info on lighting a while back, then I read about removing heat from a tent could be a bitch with 400W. I read up on the cfls and was thinking of going there but I'm still not sure, (want the bang for my buck you know?) I've got my whole office space and an extra closet but I don't want to do any "remodeling" for things like ventilation and such so thats why I chose the closet. I'm interested in the SH setup, and I'll more than likely start there, but anyway the tent I was looking at was the silver edition 3x3x6 . it looks pretty nice, but I just need a good list of materials to start out with, and some help with lighting. If I could do the 400 W and get away with it, as well as all the trimmings, then I'd go for it, fans, etc. sorry for the long passage, I really appreciate all the help guys, you'll always be the best. it's good to be back!! lol

I have been using a grow tent for over a year now and love it. have one close to the size your looking at and have a 400 in it. I would like to get another 400 some day to get 800 but the 400 works great. A buddy also has a tent with a 600 in it thats why id go with another 400 just to one up him :). I really like them and for me they are good because I cant move back into my house for 7 months as I rented it out when I took a new job so Im renting and like you cant really hack holes all over the place for venting. Its a nice clean setup. I think its worth every penny. If it helps mine is from Hydro Hut. click the link to my grow in hawaii in my signature so check it out. Or the russian link to see haw I had the setup in the closet with no tent.

since I'm trying to save money I was thinking about going with a 250W Hps and some extra cfl's maybe 42W and 65 for side lighting. a couple questions though, if I vented it out the top of the tent with an inline fan, do i have to use the ductwork if I've got a fan sufficient enough to draw out the air, and would that setup be alright for 4-5 plants? I was thinking of an ozone jr. for the smell?

The seeds should be good still, though I don't know the strain. Try Cheese or Mk Ultra for short-medium, easy, high yield indica plants. You can get seeds at the Boo.

ozone is meant to be vented outside as to much ozone is bad for you. you should run a duct from your grow area to a box with the generator in it. then vent the treated air outside. I will caution you that ozone is has very distinct smell and if I or anyone with some experience with grow ops like say... a cop were to smell it in a home the first thing i and they would think is someone is growing weed here. This is why I use a carbon filter instead. Hope this helps

The ozone jr. will be fine. It doesn't produce enough to be harmful for an enclosed space, and it really takes ALOT of ozone to hurt your lungs. There's also been a lot of corrupted information about ozone put out by the pharmaceutical company's. Different people can breath in different amounts based on the amount of pollution in their lungs. It oxidizes(harshly reacts with) the stuff in there. I've looked into ozone a lot over the course of the last year.
People in germany have been injecting ozone into people and CURING Aids, cancers, all kinds of debilitating diseases and viruses and fungal infections for over 15 years. It's pretty amazing stuff. I've been ozonating water and drinking it. You feel absolutely amazing afterward. If I feel a cold or a bug coming on, I drink about 5 glasses throughout the course of the day. I also run the ozone directly through the house. It helps from spreading the germs around the house.

If it were bad for you , they wouldn't have ozonaters (ionizers) built into Air purification systems.

Anyhow, you should be fine... :bigjoint:

That too does depend on the strain but it really piles it on about 2-3 weeks from finish. Hairs one week, baby buds the next and then it goes fast.

I finally fixed my PH problem....Hygrozyme and Aquashield were the ticket, guess I had some bad bacteria in there. Now they can finally finish hopefully.

How low do you guys take your PPM's in the ripening phase?

Hi, new to bubbleponic growing. I started out with 3 inch tall clones. I have both duel spectrum lights 6 inches from plants. Some started to wilt. removed grow light and they came back around. Should i run both lights 24/7 for 5 weeks or since they are 3 inches tall run for less than 5 weeks before i run 12/12. Help would be appreciated. Blackcigar

Mongobud,

I flush the last week of flower as in water only. Before that I run my nutes high (1200-1300 ppm) but that's because I know my strain is a nute hog.

Blackcigar,

Sounds like a heat problem to me. Or did you just put them in the system. What's you temp like and/or did you just put them in the res?

On clones I judge flower time on whether the plant is growing vigorouly with many bud sites and I let them get betwwen 12-14" since I have a height limitiation of a 3' plant at harvest.

Ok if you guys remember I made a low profile DWC cloner. Well it didnt work. I guess the D in DWC matters lol. It was just deep enough to cover the air stone. I dont think the air was passing through enough water to oxygenate it. I scraped that plan and made a new one from a rubbermaid tub like everyone else uses. I just couldnt find a irrigation hub in my area so I just put a sprinkler head on the water pump like the rain forest bucket plus the airstone. But instead of only 4 spots I have 10. I have it going 24hr but think I may want a timer. Any input on that? is the sprinkler going 24hr ok because it has so plenty of oxygen in it or will it be to much and drown the clones and seedlings? I have been out of town but ill post some pics of it when I get home

I put 85 and 105 watt bulbs 2 to 3 inches over my 3 inch tall sprouts and closer when they hit 6 inches tall.
I think you might have a HEAT problem, or maybe the clones were not fed????

I would run lights 24/7 until they were mature plants, before I strted 12/12 if you have the height space for large plants.

My plants are now 3 weeks old i have some huge fan leaves (not like rosemans though) Can i cut off some of the fan leaves to get more light down trough the plant? thanks for any help

I am often asked about removing Fan Leaves to allow more light to penetrate.

DO NOT CUT THEM.

IF you think they are blocking some lights, then get some paperclips and hold them back, if you insist on doing anything, but DO NOT CUT THE FAN LEAVES OFF.

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, When a large FAN leaf starts yellowing, say it is half yellow, that means in the photosynthesis process, that leaf has ate nutrients, absorbed some LIGHT and made food for the plant and buds and NOW, half of that is gone, or used or consumed. Well, what about the other half? Can not it's energy still be used or consumed?
AND when it is ALL consumed or used, that leaf will naturally just fall off.

AND you say it is blocking LIGHT?
GREAT and GOOD, that means it is getting the LIGHT it needs and deserves more than the other leaves do, to do it's job, to make food and grow.

Years ago I tried removing lower fan leaves to allow more Light to penetrate in. When I did cut them off, the plant went into shock for a day or two, and quit eating or only ate half as much, and just went on "stand by" mode. Then, after a day or two, suddenly I saw that big fan leaf replaced by a new leaf, and I saw my plant use the energy to replace that leaf and grow it back FAST to the size it was, more than it used it to grow the plant bigger and make more buds or bigger buds.

I now believe that removing fan leaves is pointless, and that a leaf has a purpose and will serve that purpose until it is dead. Then it will naturally fall off. You will have small and large lower leaves just naturally wilt and fall off daily.

Don't ever remove fan leaves before harvest for several reasons.

1. The fan leaves MAKE AND STORE energy for the plant. The fan leaves are doing a process called photosynthsis, and it is the most important part or task or job the plant does, to make it grow. They make the FOOD, the sugars and carbs needed to grow.

If you remove a FAN leaf, the plant will stop growing taller until it can replace that removed fan leaf.

Removing a healthy fan leaf is a big waste of time..they are rapided replaced, unless you are in the last 2 or 3 weeks of flowering.

2. Even if the fan leaves are yellowing in late bloom I do not remove them until they are almost ready to fall off. The yellowing in the fan leaves at late harvest is the plants metabolism at work. She is transferring all stored energy in the fan leaf to bud production. It is the easiest source of energy she has late in life. Let that leaf do its job.

The Wrong reasoning is like "I could run faster if I was lighter and weighted less, so I am going to cut my legs off".

From the Growers Bible by Jorge Cervantes:
Leave leaves alone! Removal of healthy leave hacks up a healthy plant. Removing large or shade leaves DOES NOT make plants more productive. This practice DOES NOT supply more light to smaller leaves and growing tips. Plants need all their leaves to produce the maximum amount of chlorophyll and food. Removing leaves slows chlorophyll production, stresses the plant, and stunts its growth. Stress is a growth inhibitor. Remove only dead leaves or leaves that are more than 50 percent damaged.
