Hi-

My friends and I all live in a 4 bedroom house if California(and yes we all have mmj cards). We wanted to start growing in our garage. We have a 10 x 10 space set aside for it I've been looking at lighting and was wondering what would be the best solution for a 10 x10 room with about 30 plants in it would be. Also 1 dumb question: on average(I know it varies from strain to strain so lets just say your avg. indica) does it take to go from clone to harvest with a proper indoor setup and light schedule?

Also I was just wondering how much an average pound of medical grade marijuana will go for when donated to a dispensary? Also is it much more common for it to be sold on consignment or would they be paid up front? And finally how much do they like you to donate at a time(1/2 pound, 1 pound...)?

If I was doing it I would get 2 600watt hps for that room. Maybe 2 1000's if you have the money. Just think about heat. You will have to get that out also. Basicly to do it right for that space your looking at about a grand or so investment. As for how much the dispensary will give you for your donation is confusing. If its donated its not sold so im confused. I would go to one and ask them. I would also not count on them wanting to buy from you. They have thier supplyers now. What can you do for them. Why deal with you? Also plan on being let down with your harvest. Its not easy to grow good med grade weed. Im not saying you cant just that its harder than most people think to get good weed. Im in Hawaii and have a med card also but we dont have any dispenceries here so we have to grow our own meds. Point is i dont know how its done as im in Hawaii not Cali so like I said I would go talk to one and ask them how to become a supplyer.

a 10'X10' room is something you would like to split to a veg and flowering room.
lets say 3'X10' for veg and 7'X10' for flowering.
for the veg you would probably want a 600w MH or 3 250W MH depending on your arrangement.
for the flowering room you would probably want a total of 1400W or more. 3x600W HPS or 1x1000 and 1x600W HPS is a great option.

however, you would need proper venting. that means an air cooled hood (cool tube for example) for each light, put them each rooms lights in series and run a strong vent with ducting so that the system draw air from out side and pull it out to the outside without anything getting to your grow room.

you will need quite a vent to push air in and out of the rooms, and vents to circulate air inside the rooms.
you will need to seperate the room entirely light-wise.


as for time to finish, you can get plants that if you flower them from clones they will finish in 2 months. but you will get tiny plants.
the more veg you give them the bigger the plant and if you have the conditions - the higher the yield will be.


I recommand that you look around the hydro forums and learn some. theres a lot to be learnt.

with that size of operation I guess hydro would be your choise of growing method, right?

I also live in California and am a medical patient protected under proposition 215.

First of all I should point out to you that in CA you are only allowed 6 mature plants per person so your room of thirty or so plants would be a violation of the law. Also you need to make sure the county you live in doesn't have any local regulations banning you and your roommates from growing together.

All of that aside I would use at least 2 1000 watt hps lights and might even consider a light mover for added coverage. As far as the usual time taken from clone to harvest, under normal conditions about 90 days. Thats 30 days to veg and 60 to flower. Most Indica strains would be perfect in that amount of time.

To answer your questions regarding the "donation" to dispensaries there are some things that need to be understood first. In order to do business with a dispensary legally you have to be part of their co-op or collective. Check with the dispensary and see what there process is for that. This covers your ass if something goes wrong.

The dispensaries I do business with generally pay 2, 3 or 4k per pound depending on if its outdoor, indoor or hydro in that order. Assuming that it has been grown to be medical grade of course. They always pay up front. I have never heard of one that does it on consignment like you spoke of. And finally most dispensaries wont even talk to you unless you have at least a pound. 1-3 pounds is the normal amout per visit here in Northern Calfornia but it varies Im sure depending on how many patients their coolective is serving.
