Clone Cuttings Directly Into Soil?

I was wondering if it'd be wise to put cuttings directly into soil.

The processes would be something along the line of:

1) Make cutting
2) Make 2nd cutting under water to remove any air bubbles
3) Dip into rooting powder
4) Poke into soil

I guess it'd be an issue of keeping the soil moist enough right without allowing any rotting/mold growing right?

I think I might just try some cups with water :)

You could also use an organic peat plug. It would hold more moisture than soil to promote root growth. I have used them many time now and have had great success. Keep them moist but not dripping wet. I have cut my branch clone either early or about a week before I change lighting to flower them I cut the tops right off and clone those. Just cut on a slant, dip in cloning gel and I stick them in the moist peat plug. Within a week or 2 you should start to see growth. Check out my grow #2, Those 5 plants are all tops of the previous grow I had. I am not expert and don't claim to be, but I have had some success and have learned a ton on here. :peace:

I too would go with the peat pellet/rockwool way instead of dirt. I tried dirt, much more of a hassle. And you can get 24 peat pellets for $2.

this plant has been in a mixture of 5 parts soil,1 part perlite,and 1 part vermiculite for 3 days exactly with a baggie over it for a humidity dome,,and is lookin fine so farit was dipped in roots first

beats the rockwool
i really dislike that stuff...lol

I tried cloning in dirt using a rubbermaid for dome and it looks like they are dying, I don't think I'm doing it right, could one get a cloning tent, rockwool or peat pellts at like lowes or walmart?

Get some peat plugs or Jiffy plugs (they are like $.25 each at walmart or home depot). Line them up in a tray with a dome on it (these are cheap too at walmart or home depot garden section). They work very well for small clones. Mist daily for moisture, don't get them too wet, just moist, leave the dome open slightly and you are good to grow. :peace:

I used this technique and got 100% survival rate. No dead fuckin clones. (Make sure they are of decent size, 6 inches long is a good, safe length.) If you're going to put clones into soil, follow this technique. Make your cut (45 degree angle) and when you make your cut underwater to remove any air bubble, make sure your water has a pinch of rooting hormone in it, no need to overdo it, just a pinch. Then take the cutting and simply place it into the moist soil, pack it down lightly around the stem, use a mister to spray any dirt off the main stalk, and WAIT... DO NOT FUCKIN TOUCH IT for 3 weeks (Then, a VERY good rooting system will have taken place that even a rough transplant couldn't fuck up) Had me all smiles anyway. But I'm trashing them for known genetics :) But the good note is that they REALLY got big after they get comfy... don't dig em up cuz you think they're not growing... as long as they are live, they're fine... just keep waiting, be patient, they will then be like "BOOM" and burst into growth.. oh.. also.. fuck dark periods.. 24 hours light baby... I GET EXPLOSIVE GROWTH w/that

I've been cloning into my man-made soil for over 25 years now. It requires little effort and it's cheaper than buying an overated Cloning Machine. I was educated in the Art of growing marijuana by an ex-military serviceman who spent a couple of years in Holland. The Dutch really know their Shit when it comes to growing some dank Pot. The original Dutch Method(Sea of Green) is the only method to use in growing some Killer Smoke. It's the way to go if you're on a tight Budget. i believe Youtube.com has the sea of Green Method by Hans. Check it out...they have a great section on Cloning into soil.:peace:

Good advice, the jiffy peat plugs work great...hold alot of water and moisture, you can get the tray and cover and the plugs come with it....thats what i have works great...;)

I also agree! Get a subscription to high times magazine they cover a mojority of commony asked questions along with pros and cons. I also use soil and red cups along with rooting gel never had a problem and good for mass production!!! I use a pete based soil so I dont have to fuck with soil ph and you can add your choice of nutrients...

I agree with poster above using the solo cups, What I do is fill the cups only halfway and take the clone, cut underwater as mentioned, dip in rooting compound and poke in the soil as you say. Next take some saran or plastic wrap and before covering the cup spray the insides of the cup enough to ensure you are getting the soil moist and the sidewalls get covered. Now having them covered in the saran wrap keeps the humidity level high and you wont need to water again. I keep the light near but not directly on the clones until they catch root. Forget the fancy clone kits as they are too costly. Try the soil method and include the solo cups and saran wrap and you will begin to have 100% success. I have too many fucking clones now as they dont die anymore. I was trying the rockwool cubes with heating mat and humidity dome and ended up with moldy ass clones that dont root. Just do the soil with saran wrap its much easier

I have a newbie question about cloning I hope you guys can help me out with. The clones really likes high humidity right? But they want light at soon as I have planted them right? So I shouldn't put the top of my small green house on?(for high humidity) Should I give them light right away? How often should I water them? I have problem with low humidity.
