Is air circulation needed for vegging in a 4'x'4' closet with a 400w MH?

I am planning on turning a 4'x4'x7' closet into a veg room, and was curious if ventilation or airflow is need for something like this?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

You always need both airflow and circulation regardless of where you are growing. A fan helps to keep air flowing and also makes the plants stems bigger and stronger. Bigger and stronger plants will be able to support more buds.

The reason you want circulation is to bring in fresh air and exhaust old air. I mean if you have a fan in a 100 degree room your just going to be blowing all 100 degrees around with out cooler fresh air being brought in from somewhere.:leaf:

That 400 watt MH is going to get plenty hot. You will need lots of fresh air and an exhaust near the top to remove the heat. One other option is to get an air cooled light, this will cut down on some of the heat but you will still need fresh air circulating also.

i agree with little tommy a cool tube would be a pretty much must in that size of space you also need a good fan if you can get 2 one for drawing the air into the room and one out i bought a cool tube after my last grow and the diference in my present grow is amazing the temp is what it should be just under 30'c and the plant love it, i wish i had bought one years ago!!!!!!

i was told and recomended you measure your grow space area wxlxh then multyply that by12, the number of times per hour you idearly want to change the air. hopr this helps.

Thanks for the advice and recommendations! With just a 400 Watt Metal Halide a cooltube and additional inline fans seems like a bit overkill to me (though it would be nice to have for sure).

The closet I am wanting to use for veg will not be air tight (it can pull cooler air from the room), and I was thinking I could vent it out into the flowering area easily enough by running a short duct through the wall.

I have two 600Watt HPS for flowering, with cooltubes, and a 500CFM fan to suck air through the carbon filter and blow air out of the room, and I am bringing fresh air in from the next room over, my flowering room will be in the same room as the closet I am wanting to use for veg.

Currently the closet is 72ºF during the day with 3 26 Watt CFLs running 24/7 (that I am using to sprout my seedlings). I am using a heating pad under my seedlings to stop them from getting too cool at night.

Being in Michigan could I get away with a small amount of ventilation for the vegging area (my flowering area will have very sufficient ventilation) through the winter months, and upgrade it a bit once I have a couple harvests in the books and a bit more money to go with?

Basically what happened is I blew my budget on everything else, and didn't consider the need to properly ventilate my vegging closet.

i hear you with what seems like over kill but its better to have air exchange than not i have found, but for cheep intake fan i have used a £15 bathroom fan which gives enough air to be brought into my room with a few extra holes as vents. in an ideal world you could air seel your room and be able to controle it all, ( when i got more money haha and better room)

All you can do is try it and see how it goes. Good Luck with your grow.
I cheated and found a return air duct above my room. I cut a 6" pipe up there and blocked a portion of the normal return. Whenever the furnace kicks on it helps vent my room. Check out my jornal, early on it was probably 90, box fan dropped it to 83 or so, the newest edition dropped it to 75 open/80 sealed. Goodluck :joint:
