Here we go again; Blue Cheese & PowerKush

Some of you might have checked out my previous grow where I grew three Mazar-I-Sharif plants; all of which turned out male. :cuss: They were freebies though so I can't complain. This time around I'm doing Big Buddha Blue Cheese and Dinafem Powerkush with a 150HPS. Both seeds are feminized so I won't have the same problems as last time. Also, CFL's will be added in flowering most likely. I've got nearly 600 watts of 42's on standby, lol.

Soil, nutes and PH testing is ready to go:

I realize my PH testing is ghetto, it's the type where you put a few drops into a vial. It's always treated me well though and luckily my water is a perfect PH to begin with. The only time I need to mess with it is when it's time for tiger bloom which has a very low PH apparently.

My Blue Cheese was born today, 11/22. It's the one in the big black pot but good luck spotting it just yet, it's so small. It was put into germ the same time as the powerkush yet took several days to crack. Meanwhile the powerkush took only 24 hours to crack and another 24 to sprout! The powerkush is three days old. I've also decided to put an HPS on them right away rather than using blue CFL's. I realize this isn't ideal but CFL's are a pain to work with and while I might get a bit of stretching at first I don't mind it and it's not really that big of it deal assuming you use common sense. (This is my fifth grow BTW) Hopefully these little babies will make me proud. I'll try to update every couple days or so. After all, I need to justify the cost of this new camera. :bigjoint:

I find the seedling stage to always be the most boring time. It's always fun once you hit the 10-15 day mark because the growth really takes off. During the seedling stage though you just slowly watch a set of leaves grow, then another set, etc. Perhaps I'm just impatient though. Anyhow, everything's going fine.

Blue Cheese at two days old:

PowerKush at five days old:

There's a bit of stretching due to using a 150HPS during the seedling stage; both seedlings are two inches tall. It's nothing out of control though. I just put a fan on medium blowing directly at the seedlings to create fat stems which will hopefully support massive buds soon. :bigjoint:

Temps couldn't be better right now. It averages 77-78F at all times in the closet. I'm going to start flowering at day 15-20 depending on how they look.

It's been five days since my last update so I figured I'd post one. Unfortunately my PowerKush isn't looking too good. It was my first time using a 16oz cup and I thought it was drying out quicker than it really was. Also, my drainage holes weren't big enough. It ended up getting WAY to much water. :wall: Basically it stopped growing, got droopy and developed gray spots on it's first set of leaves. I also noticed a couple roots were hanging out of the drainage holes in the cup. I transplanted it into a bigger pot two days ago. It's too early to tell if it'll survive but in the past twelve hours the second set of leaves on it took off and grew a lot. It also was crazy droopy but now it has picked up a bit. Hopefully I didn't kill it but we'll see. It's about ten days old and still a little seedling. :-( I forgot to take any pictures of what it looked like during it's worst but it has definitely improved so there's hope. Here's one I just took:

Meanwhile my Blue Cheese is a healthy green and is about where it should be for it's age; 6 days old. It just developed it's third set of leaves and both look healthy. What's odd though is one of the leaves on the second set looks weird. It looks like it's developing five points while the other side is three points yet bigger. Otherwise it looks fine. Here's a pic:

I'm not really sure what happened to that one leaf. The pic makes it look all twisted up but it's just an illusion.. it's healthy looking yet looks like it's going to be a five pointer and is smaller than the other leaf, which is only three points, on the same set. WTF? The 3rd set, which you can't see from the pic, is perfectly normal and healthy though so who knows... Obviously I'll keep an eye on it.

I swear, growing makes me bipolar. One moment I'll be all happy about growing and the next I'll have an issue and get all down about how it's looking.

I'm lazy and don't feel like taking pics but my PowerKush is looking MUCH better. The new set has developed three pointers and it's not droopy at all. It's looking like I saved it just in time. :D

The Blue Cheese is in fact developing a five pointer on one side. I've never seen mismatched leaf sets. Is that normal?

Damn, that sucks man. How's it looking now? I hear ya about relaxing.. it just gets annoying when you start having problems early on. It's like a bad sign of whats to come to me but I'm just being paranoid, lol. Then again, I have reason to be paranoid. This is only my fifth grow.

I've got some updated pics. The PowerKush actually seems to have picked up a bit. The new growth seems to be a healthy green at least and it's grown A LOT in the last couple days. It's starting to look a lot like nute burn though and I haven't added any nutes. Perhaps the Ocean Forrest is a little too hot for it with the addition of overwatering but who knows. Here it is:

Meanwhile the Blue Cheese looks healthy. That five pointer I was paranoid about ended up actually being a really unusual looking three pointer and is really serrated. You can see it on the left side of the first pic. The new growth is looking great and already has five points too. Here's a couple pics of the Blue Cheese:

well the royal kush is still living so it should be fine.just a lil stunted for a few days. yeah dont water so much. it makes too much of the nutes in soil more available. otherwise looks good so far.

Makes sense, I definitely went a little overboard with watering in the beginning. It looks like the Powerkush survived. It has exploded lately. Undergrowth has exploded on the blue cheese too. I'm going to start 1/4 of growbig next watering. I'd post pics but RIU is giving me an error when I try to upload pics right now so I'll try later. :?:

Looks like RIU is back to normal. These pics were taken directly under the HPS/CFL's so that's why there's a yellow tinge to the plants.

PowerKush:

New growth has exploded and looks a healthy green. It sure looks like it's going to make it. :D

Blue Cheese:

It's definitely got the fat indica leaves going. I'm hoping for a nice couch-lock high this time around. :weed:

looking good . now they should take off
They definitely have. The PowerKush is looking perfectly healthy now. I switched to 12/12 yesterday, which would mean the Blue Cheese vegged for 16 days. I've always used the Buds4Less book guidelines for my grows because I'm working with limited space and light. The plants always seem to finish between 2-3feet doing this and my limit is about 3.5-4ft. I also added in two 42w CFL's along with the 150HPS. Here's a quick pic I snapped just now (Again, if they look yellow its the HPS/CFL glow):

They definitely got the 12/12 stretch last night. The PowerKush is finally catching up to the Blue Cheese too.

They got their first dose of 1/4 strength Grow Big today as well. I'll probably add in Big Bloom in a week or so. My only negative thus far is temps are getting a bit low; 59F during dark hours.

They have been stretching like crazy. A couple inches alone last night. I'm having to constantly move my HPS up. The funny thing is my Powerkush started out being sickly yet now it's the best looking one of the two. The blue cheese has a little bit of the claw going on; I'm not sure why that happens and it's happened on nearly all my grows. It never seems to affect overall yeild though.

Still no pre-flowers yet. It's been a little over a week flowering so nothing to worry about. I now have a total of four 42w CFL's and 150HPS on them.

Blue Cheese:

PowerKush:

I love that symmetrical look. :weed:

After about two weeks of flowering they are finally showing female preflowers. The funny thing is they both showed on the same day. Things are about to get interesting.

I couldn't get a good pic of the Powerkush preflower but I got a decent one of the Blue Cheese.

The Blue Cheese already has a pretty intense skunk/burnt tire smell. The PowerKush smells a lot like cat urine, lol. For only two plants which just showed sex today the smell is crazy intense. I'm growing in a closet and even with the door closed you can smell both plants easily within a 10foot radius. I can't wait until they are in full budding.:o

I fed them both a full dose of big bloom and 1/4 strength tiger bloom. No more grow big for them. Thanks to tiger bloom I've got to start PH'ing my water on a regular basis now.

It's crazy how the PowerKush started out so sickly and yet is so healthy looking now. In just a couple days the cola already has a decent amount of sugar/pistils on it.

I'm a bit lazy to take more pics so I'll get a few later.

The Blue Cheese hasn't started to fully bloom yet so hopefully it'll pick up soon. I now have five 42w CFL's surrounding the plants from all angles and the 150HPS hitting the top. Today they both got a full dose of big bloom and a half dose of tiger bloom too.
