ozone generators

If its the room you sleep in I wouldn't use one. It would be one thing if it were a spare room that you didn't spend much time in but even low levels for extended periods of time can be bad for you. Get one of those ozium time misters or one of those buckets I think that would work better for you.

oh dear just read this...

Ground level ozone also affects plants. Most plants exchange gases with the surrounding air through stomata. These holes also let in ozone and affect cells within the plant. Mitochondria and chloroplasts are affected, preventing the plant to photosynthesise and respire effectively. The plant leaves develop spots, go brown, then the plant dies. The tobacco plant Nicitiana is particularly susceptible to ozone and has been used to monitor ozone levels and patterns nation-wide.

i did see one that gave off 50mg/hr and was pretty cheap and indeed covered the area of my room 28 cubic meters well - but now im not so sure?

I bought a cap 1 ozone gen (UV type) and have done alot of research and testing on it and they are just too hard to set up "properly". IF its a very weak/mild odor then it might work ok, but if its a strong odor it is just a waste of time. There are not very many odors a good fresh carbon filter cannot completely eliminate. If the odor is getting past your carbon , then there is not enough "active" carbon in your filter or the carbon "pores" are just filled all the way up and the odor is just passing right around the carbon.
I would go with a filter with at least 30 lbs. of activated carbon in it, but thats me.
i have this generator :http://www.horticulturesource.com/product_info.php?products_id=3929
its for sale too .....

yeah, maybe its time to change the filter... it is blackening up on the outside of it - i heard that washing that foam part can help prolong the life of the filter, maybe i could try that until i can afford to get a better one

washing the outer foam part (NOT in a washing machine , i did that, oops) does help to remove the "bigger particles" so the carbon doesn't have to work as hard but the "particles" in odors are smaller then dust so it is defiantly time to change your carbon/filter.
(i found a 6" one with 40 lbs of charcoal for 120 to the door)

I'm also very interested in purchasing an ozone generator. I grow in a Homebox XS tent and have a 6" 435cfm fan pulling air through a 4" organic air charcoal scrubber and I had lots of odor problems. I'm going to be putting my tent in a closet/room that's about 6' x 6' with no windows, 2 doors (1 to my bedroom/1 to hallway) and was planning on purchasing the CAP Ozone Jr and running it on a timer. Anyways, I'm not truly convinced that an ozone generator is the best choice. I'll be following this thread to see what the OP chooses to do.

its probably just time for me to update my carbon filter... it was a cheap ebay one to get me started... got an hvk one with a good filter on its way for my flowering room - i guess you get what you pay for. After doing all the reading i dont think that im going to bother with an ozone generator, like i say its in my bedroom and i dont want to be constantly exposed to even low levels when i can use other things such as ona or good air fresheners to mask the smell if it gets too bad. Im looking forward to getting my new fan and filter kit for my flowering room and ill eventually replace the offending veg room filter i think.

cap jr. just wont do it, , you might be able to use a bigger o3 generator but it is WAY to hard to set up proper. you need a real amount of carbon to do the job very easy. (not just 4 or 5 lbs. an definatly not one of those carbon "pre-filters", i would say 20lbs or more for a small grow)

The whole "problem" with ozone is that u have to let the odor sit with the o3 long enough to eliminate it. So putting ozone "inline" is a total waste of time in my opinion (and through much testing)
and of course u cant put it in your room with babies cause it will kill them. that goes for about anything alive.
So the only way it can possibly work is building a "dump room" just for the o3, and if the dump room is not 100% air tight then the odor will leak, and like i said if the odor does not "sit" with the o3 long enough it will just pass by, so now we are talking smaller fans (under 100 cfm) and timers and i still could not get it to work. :cuss:
fuck ozone , if i would have known before that carbon REALLY worked , i would have never went through all that testing.
i used a 60$ squirrel cage (around 400 cfm) and a carbon filter with 40lbs of activated charcoal in it, and it gets rid of "heavy" odors. it costed the same as the 5500 cu ft ozone generator. (120 to a door)

very good choice! :weed:

Thanks for the information. I have decided not to go with an ozone generator and instead follow your advice and purchase a carbon filter with lots of carbon. Do you have any recommendations as to what brands will work? Preferably maybe a refillable one like mountain air. My tent is really small so I need the 435CFM fan to exhaust the heat from the 400w HPS which means that I pull the air through only one 4" opening on my reflector. Can filters don't handle enough CFM's at the right sizes for me.

I am building a grow room in my basement with a high end bathroom fan (70 CFM) to be used for ventilation. I am making a "T" into my dryer vent going directly outside. Anyone see an issue with that? I would believe only 4-6 plants would not produce enough smell outside to create an issue? I plan on building an ONA supplemental filter/fan. Think this will be sufficient to keep guests from "guessing" what is in the new closet?

they wont have to guess, they will know if you dont get some type of filter. 4-6 can be a very strong odor. ONA should work for 4-6.

not sure i understand.......
what cfm rating/size do u need?
I have a 4" air coolable reflector with a valueline 435cfm fan. My tent is only 2x2x4 so I definitely need my fan running at full power to pull the heat out. Current setup is reflector>ducting>fan>filter with the fan and filter being outside the tent due to space constraints.

Everytime this subject comes up it is a giant crap magnet. The ozone put out by air purifiers is not at all dangerous. In fact, it is prescribed for people with asthma. It will not hurt your plants but don't put it in a small closed closet with plants, put it in the room outside. And if that is where you sleep, you'll sleep better.

i am not sure a "air purifier" and a ozone generator are the same thing? But the Cap ozone gen i have is only designed for 5500 cu. ft. and i know for a fact it would kill someone with asthma!
My house is alot bigger then 5500 cu ft. but if i was to put it in the biggest room with a fan on it, it would still make u very sick. (there is warnings all over the label)
and even with that much o3 , u cant put it "inline" cause the odor will blow right past it.
One of the very small air purifiers might work for the green smell of vegging plants but i just dont see a way for it to work at all on "odors".

Its a big filter but that is good! its 40lbs of charcoal with a 6" flange, so u might need an adapter ... but it should be alot closer to the price ur lookin for.
this is by far my favorite store for everything.

Plantlighting is store I order all my stuff from as well. I'll probably pick that one up if the smell becomes a problem. I'm going to try putting my filter inside the tent instead of having it outside for my next grow. Also thought about buying an organic air charcoal filter and running that alongside the charcoal scrubber I already have and then using ONA or Ozium as supplemental odor control.
