The Fostex Journal...1st Grow

OKay.... I wasnt going to make a journal but after looking around for a while Im not too worried about it. Also i was bored.

Strain: White label Power Plant

# of Plants: 5

Method of Growing: 2 plants in soil (not pictured) 3 plants In Bubbleponics

So Im in my 5th Week growing and it has been a steep learning curve. I bought 2 books "Grow Great Marijuana" by Logan Edwards (great book) and "Hydroponic Basics" by George F. Van Patten (another excellent book). Those along with this site have been very helpful. Ive had a couple close calls with roots getting slimy because of too much H202 and high res temps but other than that it has been smooth sailing. I am still vegging at 5 weeks and am using about 450 watts of cfls. Im going for some small trees:mrgreen: I ordered a 600 watt HPS for flowering when the time comes. Ive made some changes to my bubbleponics system and have a good idea (after trial and error) of how to get good results with it so if any one else has it and needs help just holla.

If anyone has advice on increasing yield Im all ears.

Peace and love.

-Fostex

Welcome to the forum. And it looks like you are off to a good start. Hope they all end up ladies. If you haven't already done so you should clone those plants soon.
I would not put a six hundred watt furnace in there. Details are in my journal. VV

Im waiting on cloning gel to come in the mail along with my HPS. On the smaller plants and the more predominantly Indica it doesnt seem like there are any good sites to take clones. All they have is the main shoot and fan leaves with tiny new shoots above the fan leaves at about an inch or two. I never topped any of the plants.

And as far as the 600 watt light i have another 6 ft or so above the plants not shown in the pic so i can raise it up quite a bit. I have a ventilation fan going into the attic and some other methods of keeping the temp down. Ill just take some more pics hang on......

These should give a better idea of what im working with. Any advice on taking clones? Sorry about the poor pic quality... i use the camera on my macbook pro...ever try taking a picture with a laptop when you cant see the screen and having to quirk your arms in oblong positions? haha

The second pic in the previous post shows my custom vent into the attic...Seems to get the job done. The temp in the closet stays around 74F in the day and 69F at night. I leave the closet door open and the window in the room open for CO2 and airflow. It is snowing outside as im posting this!

Oh yeah, I am going to take out the clothes rack when the time comes and i need more room.

A big hearty welcome to the forum Fostex. I've seen some of your other posts and you seem to be a stand up guy with his head screwed on really tight. You'd do well to cancel your order with SH and order from HTG Supply, if it hasn't shipped. SH is a nightmare; just ask anybody on RIU. Their lack of customer service and sorry products have probably killed more plants than the DEA.

Yea i had to find out the hard way about SH and i actually have a light coming from HTG... funny how our experience seems to nudge us in the right direction, hopefully after banging our heads long enough we will find our way home.

My first order (the kit) came in a decent amount of time. I also ordered additional lights like a month ago and still have only gotten half of them. It seems like they do not stock certain items, waiting for someone to order them and then placing the order from their supplier then marking up the price. I guess what I am saying is they are middle men.

On another note, tomorrow i will be changing my res and ill try to take some pics showing my method.

peace be with you all....happy thanksgiving eve

I had pretty much the exact same experience; my bubbleponics system came in quickly and I was pumped. I figured the rest of the stuff (pH down/up, nutes, meter, etc) would be coming in the next day or two so I germed my seeds - 14 Blue Berry plants. The seeds sprouted; I put them in the rock wool; placed the RW on the hydroton; got the bubbleponics system set up and ready to go but nothing else had come from SH. I emailed and finally got a reply that it was about to be sent out. When I got (part of) my stuff in, I had no meter and no nutes. Half of the container lids for the pH up/down were broken. Fortunately it was all ph down so I scooped up all the mess and put it back into the bottles; it was the texture of sand. Needless to say, all 14 plants died because I had no idea what my pH was and I had nothing to feed the babies after the first week. HTG Supply has my loyalty; they have a great selection, competitive prices, fast, discrete shipping and *customer service* above and beyond. They were out of the el-cheapo HPS bulbs I ordered with my HID system so they substituted the more expensive Hortilux bulbs for me at no additional cost. They could have put the bulbs on back order; it wasn't like I needed to hook them up within the next month. The meter I paid $150 for from SH was a POS; never could get it to work right; it would creep from 5.0 to 8 or so, never stabilizing. Nongreenthumb recommended the Hanna so I bought that and it's been great.
