What happens if you try to light a 250w HPS with a Blueline 250w MH electronicballast

What does one think would result from trying to light a 250w HPS bulb with a 250w blueline electronic ballast that's meant for MH lamps?

I have the HPS bulb and am very curious..but scared I might damage something..however it SEEMS LIKE it shouldn't, and that if anything it just wont work..
Does anyone have any thoughts on this or has anyone tried it?

Anyone think it'd prob burn up the ballast?

If it nails the light I don't care..if it nails the ballast that sucks =( lol..

U'd probably blow ur fuses/circuits..i wouldnt try it...

i wanna try it but i don't wanna blow fuses and have to try to find those and I def don't wanna fry the circuits hehe!
The light just kicked off an hour ago so I could try it right now...
I might wait till tomorrow night lights out for it to try it if I end up trying i still haven't found anything researching it one way or the other..

No, no and no. A HPS(magnetic) ballast has an igniter and capacitor while the MH ballasts do not have an igniter. As for a electronic ballast I have no idea.

i put 400 mh in hps ballast fine and dandy,but never tried hps in mh ballast, although my friend ran a 400w hps in a 1000w mh ballast for a month then ballast crapped he is just not smart for doin that but he didnt blow nothing up,i ask that bored electrician guy on here for eletir info or just check his thread answers and reasons are there i think, wear safety glasses

They have a conversion bulb both mh &hps.

As far as the hps in a mh ballast It will work but you run the risk of blowing up your bulb and the have a special substance in it the cannot be inhaled if you try it wear a respirator and saftey glasses. ite capasitor in the ballast will hit the bulb with to much voltage and likely blow it out. be safe.

Typically electronic ballasts will run both MH & HPS.

Read the specs. Call the MFG.

If it won't work and you do it, I'd think you would hurt the ballast (and how it gets hurt, possibly blow a fuse/pop a breaker)

Putting a HPS bulb in a MH magnetic/inductive ballast usually it just doesn't light.

Putting a MH in a HPS magnetic/inductive ballast usually works. (though not recommended for more then a few minutes. Used to test the igniter/cap of the ballast)

Well, I discovered today that I had been running my 430w HPS in my switchable ballast, and realized that the ballast was switched to MH so.. no problem that I could see... but It seems to be brighter now that I switched it... we'll see

Its been going like that for probably 2 weeks... so.. I did switch it back once I realized it...

anyone know what effect this might have on output... ?
