Growing Questions.

I have 2 females, and one baby just sprouting under 160 watt floursecsnet light. Someone told me the floursecesnts wont make the buds grow bigger. is that true? Also How far away should I put my little sproutling from the light, Im putting it under for 18/6 for the hours.

you can get decent sized nugs from cfl's.. i have seen some very impressive grows from cfl's on here.. some people like to put them down and say that you can only get good buds using a 1k hps or whatever, and its really not true..
as for how close you want that light.. i would say around four or five inches away.. that's the thing with cfl's.. the light is not very intense from them and fades very quickly the further you get from the source.. as the plants get bigger, you will want to move the light closer and closer to her untill its around an inch or so away from your plant.. a good rule of thumb is if you can hold your hand over the top of your plants, and your hand doesn't get too hot in around 30 seconds or so, then it will be ok for your plants.. seedlings are a lil more sensitive then bigger plants, so this is the reason for starting out a lil further away from the source.. if the plant looks like its stretching looking for light, you know that your lights are too far away..

I usually put my light an inch away from seedlings too. It helps them grow nice and short/bushy.

What are you asking? The long flouros usually aren't as powerful, except T5's but they're more expensive for flouros. What kind of flouro do you have? what is the color temp? The lower, or red, spectrum of light (~2700 Kelvins) is best for budding. I've smoked some really dank Auto Hindu Kush grown from CFL's, and currently am using them for my grows. You get much more bud with high powered lights (MH, HPS), because they penetrate deeper under the canopy better, but flouros are good cuz they dont get hot, therefore much less space is needed - People grow inside computer cases with CFL's.
You can get a 60 or 65W 2700K CFL at Home Depot for $13. I'm pretty sure it uses the common medium socket too. You could also mix spectrums by using ~6400K bulbs. Those are commonly sold in 26W (they say 100W equivalent, but forget that). 42W 2700K bulb are pretty common too. You can use Y connectors and plugin converters to make an array of bulbs on a surge protector.

Hope this helps. Sorry if you already knew all that.

Bad ass pic of Amsterdam racer. Damn I miss that place.

As for the lights. Keep it simple. I assume this is your first grow? All these guys are right with the technical stuff. I am using LEDs with a lot of success. I have grown with flouros, and cfl's, my best advice is to keep em close. What has worked for me that I would reccomend is to switch your timing to 20 on 4 off while vegging, and 12/12 when flowering. If 18/6 is working for you, then stick with it. Best of luck!

I have 4 40 watt long flouro bulbs, I got the setup for free so I don't know what type of lights they are?
