Seeds opened but...

So I planted 8 of the seeds I bought and only four have germinated and are now under light. The four other seeds I planted - 1 white widow, 1 pure power, and the two freebies Thai Skunk and LA Woman - have cracked open but are not growing. I put them in soil 10 days ago - Jiffy Greenhouse Tray. Today, I final used tweezers to uncover the seeds that didn't sprout. Three had cracked open and were showing a very small root while one - the Thai Skunk - did nothing. Does this mean they are taking longer to grow, or are they "bad" seeds that opened but will not grow. How long should I wait until I can determine the seeds are no good? Any input is greatly appreciated.

did you germ them before you put them in the soil or did you just throw them in the dirt and hope for the best?

Well, I wouldn't say I just threw them in - but yes - I used Jiffy plugs and I am trying to germinate in soil. I prefer in soil germination only because its less handling (and potential damage) you can do to the delicate tap root. I am a landscaper and have a pretty good knowledge or gardening and planting, but I'm still new when it comes to this type of cultivation.

put a heating pad under them and a light over the soil and they'll pop in a day or two. the medium needs to be kept warm for germination directly in soil.

the best way i have found for germing is the paper towel method (pretty sure its a sticky in newbie central) and then put em in the soil only had a few that didn't take after that, it also depends on where you got em from some shady seed companies out there

I have had them under the heat vent - covered in the Jiffy greenhouse as to not dry them out - so its been fairly warm? But I will make sure they keep warm - maybe I just need to be patient.

Yeah, I might try the paper towel method next time. I bought the seeds from Attitude and the breeder was Nirvana - so I assume they are good seeds and genetics?

when germinating it must be dark i also use paper towel and let grow out of shell a little and then carefully plant i have done this for 18+ years no prob keep really wet and you should be ok. good luck u should already have a green thumb if u are a landscaper so go on and grow bro!!!

I'm 6 for 6 using the paper towel method. Don't forget to cover with plastic, or put in baggie, as well as keep warm and out of the light.

If none of those suggestions helps, check your water source. I made the mistake of using tap water once and all the seeds would crack, grow a small amount and then die. Found out later our water has chlorine or something in it that was killing them.
