Aeroponics water temp.

I am currently running a DIY aerocloner that was built out of a rubbermaid tub. I am currently trying to find a sweet spot for water temperature without having to do too much babysitting. I have yet to place cuttings in the container.

I am working on getting PH dialed in, as well as water temperature. I am trying to find the sweet spot for temperature so I don't cause damage to the roots. Right now, with the light on and ambient room temps I am running at 78.5 - 78.9 degrees. When the light is off, the temperature is 77.7 at the moment.

The pump is running 24/7, but I don't have the confidence that the pump running at a slower interval would lower the temperature of the water too much. It might, but I don't have a timer yet to try. I will be getting a simple one similar to what I run my lights with since it appears to run in 10 minute blocks with the way you can set it. That might help. I also plan on adding an air stone, or is it necessary with the water being sprayed from the jets? I would think that would help oxygenate the water, but the pump would introduce fresh oxygen to the res for sure.

Any ideas would be most appreciated. I need to take some cuts soon.

High 70's is too high. I keep my solution below 70 - usually around 68. You want the warmth and humidity up top, not down below. What brand/size pump are you using? Some pumps will heat up your reservoir like crazy while others will not. Have a look at the EcoPlus pumps; they are inexpensive, reliable, and can be run submersed without heating up your solution too much. They can also be run in-line if necessary. As for on/off times, 10 minutes is too long IMO. A 'recycling' timer set to 1 minute on/5 minutes off would be ideal and would help to keep solution temps down.

1. Regarding cycle times. I was going to try 30-seconds on and 4-minutes off. Is there a specific formula or preferred cycles times for this?

2. I have also purchased a small chiller to help keep temps down. Should the pump for the chiller also be in the reservoir or is it better to run it in-line (external) since the chiller docs state the pump should always be running?

u can run higher temps in ur res without getting slime along as u dose with h2o2 every 3 days

I have an aeroflo and I had problems with res temps at first. I put a inline chiller and a fan blowing on my pump and it fixed my problem. It took my res temp from 80 to 68. I still run my pump 24/7 cause thatys what GH says to do. I though about putting the pump on a timer also, but I just cant let myself, cause everything is going so good. I have had 3-4 inches of growth on plants before in this system.

First, and from experience, putting your pump in the res is like 2nd grade technique. Also, these are low pressure pumps. Proper feeding of roots requires (ney demands) high pressure pumps. This is moving into real aeroponics. LP systems are termed FAG- fake aeroponic grow.

Perosnal experience has shown me TAG True Aeroponic Grow techniques quadruples your yieldh while reducing grow times by 30-40%. Who wouldn't want that? If you are curious come see my journal on IC

FAg, TAG , LAG, DRAG whatever. Aero is aero. There are fair aeros better aeros or flat out crappy aeros. The small tube, low pressure, continous run Earl type aeros are sad but in principal they are stll somehwhat aero. Aero just means the roots are in air not in a physical media or submerged in water. Presently air atomized and high prressure aeros systems in deep chambers are at the top end in growing efficiency and is nearest to being true aero. Even they however, often have some roots that grow long enough to accumulate in the chamber bottoms. However as so little water is sprayed the roots never sit in pools of water as is the case with small tube aero and NTF gutter systems. DWC, and bubbleponics are way down the list with ebb and flow and standad inert hydro somewhere in betwee

I'm not concerned about yield keeping my plants in a tank. I stated I am rooting in aero, and never mentioned that I was keeping anything in the tank. TAG, FAG, GAG, whatever you want to call it, it doesn't matter. I'm keeping cuts in the tank no more than 2 weeks so I don't need an e-penis scientific breakdown for something that isn't applicable to begin with.

The thread can be closed. I got everything figured out and I am running at 68-69 degrees without a chiller or tossing a frozen bottle of water in the tank. Just rooted my first set of clones and they came out beautifully.

you will waterlog and burn your clones up if you let the pump run 24/7 its happened to me. id go with 1 minute on 10-20 minutes off.

i stopped doing clones in aero and just use root riot cubes or whatever and they go into my hydroton after its rooted very well. those things i put in a humidity dome and just mist them every few days with a light over the dome.

oh and i just read your other posts so if you cant afford a timer well then go fuck yourself lol
