I really need someone to take me under their wing

OK, I need help: I want to grow some dank bud. I just finished my second grow, but see the need for much improvement. I'm growing in a closet 4'x2' under a 400 watt HPS/MH light. Been using General Hydroponics, Flora Bloom and Flora Micro according to the Lucas formula. There's a hole in the ceiling for ventilation and a box fan to keep air circulating. My first grow was in a deep water culture plus drip feed system that I made. For the second grow I did some modifications and just used the drip feed. I'm ordering some fem. seeds and want this next grow to turn out better than the first two. I really would appreciate it if someone would be willing to mentor me. Thanks in advance!

I would suggest using an air cooled 600 watt light, blow the hot air out of the hole in your ceiling, use an inline or mixed flow fan to move the air. Try some UV lights as well. What kind of seed are you getting?

I'm planning on getting a variety of seeds from the single seed center. Blue Cheese, BLZ Bud, Magic Bud and maybe Northern Lights x Skunk. The Lucas system has worked pretty well I guess: no problems really and I'm sure my inexperience really hindered the grow. Is 400 watts sufficient for this size area and how many plants should I try to grow. Three have been filling it up. I'd love to get into organics or maybe try getting away from the whole hydro setup.

A 400 watt HID will cover a 3x4 space (idealy), the # of plants you put under that is a personal preference type of thing. I would put 8-12 plants in 2 gallon pots

okay....organics are simple, and even more simple if your using reverse osmosis water (no pH issues).
Here is what you'll need:

Medium = Fox Farm's Ocean Forest (some people use perlite with this if they are having problems with the soil drying out quick enough)...I use pure FFOF.
Fertlizers = Earthworm castings, Seabird Guano (high in N), Bat Guano (high in P), kelp Meal (algamin) or liquid seaweed, and molasses, and a bottle of cal./mag.

About your medium : The FFOF has plenty of fertlizer in it, so, you'll not need to fertilize for a month once planted into pot. Also, the FFOF isn't for young seedlings, it can be too strong. Fox Farm suggest using their, "Happy Frog" for the first couple of weeks of veg for the young ones.

About your fertilizers : A good way to use these fertlizers that I mention is to make a tea. To make a tea, you'll need a straining net. I found mine at a paint store. You mix your fertilizers together and put inside the straining net. You then place a bubble stone UNDER the net/fertilizer. Let this bubble for 24-48 hours. You don't want to feed your plants this pure. You'll want to add cups of your tea to new water. To give you an idea (example: during bloom, in week #3, I put 2 cups of this tea into each gallon of water). How much to use, is again, personal preference. Also, if your using reverse osmosis water, you'll want to add 1 - 2 ml of cal./mag. to each gallon, to all water and tea.

How I've done it?

I've taken my clones form an ezcloner after they have established a good root system and planted straight into FFOF (16oz. cups) and let grow for 3 weeks under flos.
Then, I transplant into 1 gallon bags of freash FFOF. I start my tea feeding the end of week 3 then only feed once weekly afterward except for the last 2 week to allow a flushing. You'll want to slowly back up off of the Seabird guano to lower the N in your soil, by week 5 stop the seabird guano and worm castings.

U have a great set up for the size room ur in light set up.If u are willing to go to soil i will help u you will never go back to hydro dwc once u go dirt the bud taste better alot less probs less stress much easier to deal with when u grow it the way it ways intended to be grown.Let me now if u what to try soil this time and i will help u. I'm following you. I'm thinking that I'll need to order these products online. I've not yet attempted clonning, but need to learn also.

I must say it took me about a year to be able to stand on my own thats what you are looking for independence not for as you said someone to take you under their wing did you have someone to do your homework in school

it was a struggle for me when i did not know and people did not respond to my questions im so grateful that my knowledge has grown and i dont have to run crying with every question for every answer it was a journey i had to take you can start with the faqs at top right of page if you dont find nobody to carry you you might have to take that long journey yourself and read read read oh yeh did i say read you gotta read

...good advice. Myself, I could never trust most people to take growing advice from and had to do months of extentive reading...and still yet, the more I learn, the more I realize there is soooo much more to learn! LOL

Good advice. Just be sure to keep those bubbles going or use the tea quickly. Dont want it to go sour on you. If it smells good and 'earthy' alls good. If it smells like crap then it probaly is and I wouldnt use it.

...here's your best bet. EZcloner! You can home make these for less then $50 if your creative.

Pure tap water!
NO ROOTING HORMONES!
70 degrees!
pH = 5.5 - 6!
24 hours of low lumen flos.

Yes, trichlone fiend and Indyman gave you some very good advice! Only thing I would add is a 600w instead of 400w, there's a HUGE difference, use cool-tubes if you have to. Also co2 would make a big impact, and it isn't necessarily a huge investment; I'm planning on getting the co2 boost bucket, which lasts for about 90 days (with timer), and retails for $ 130-135 (refill is a $100). I switched from hydro to soil recently, and Indyman is right: I'll never go back.

keep in mind whengrowing multible strains its better to find strains that have simular growing genetics. if you do not your canopy will be un even. i grow everything from clone. lucky enough to have a dispensery across the street. and all their clones come from a nusery . and they have a guide on every strain. so when i pick my strains i can compare how i want my grow to be. right now i am growing 6white widow and 2 hindu skunk.

400watts will work. 600 would be better. both i would do air cooled. and depending on how long you plan on vegging is how many plants you could fit. but i would recomend 6-8 max if your doing soil.
