Need help with sog ebb & flow set up

Whats happenin Rollitup? As some of ya might know Im a long time dirt lover, but due to recent space restrictions Ive decided to come over to the wet side! This will be my first time flowering in a hydroponic set up and as I go I keep running into little questions that I could really use help with. So Im turning to my water loving RIUers for answers!
First of all Im running a rare pheno of Chocolope that I recently found in a 6 pack, jus want yall ta know that she barely stretches at all in flower so when I say Im vegging to 12 inches theye not gonna end up 10 feet tall after stretch like the normal Choc phenos would!
Im very pressed for space so Im currently using a closet to flower. The tent sits up on a shelf about 3 feet off the ground. Its 2x4x5 feet with 2 air cooled 400s, a 2x4 flood table, and a vortx 600 w/odor sok for ventilation.
So here's my first question:
Since my tent is on a shelf 3 ft off the ground and I only have 5 feet of height to work with Id like to avoid putting the res in tent up on the shelf. Id really like to avoid having 20+ gallons of water 3 feet in the air if I dont have to! That just seems like an accident waiting ta happen! So I need ta know if a 600 gph pump is strong enough to lift the water from the res on the floor up to the flood table 3 feet above it?
Second question is how much water do I need to keep in my res? Ive heard 2 gallons per square foot is a minimum but I know the smaller the res the more ph fluctuation and temp problems Ill have too. SO I got a 27 gallon res, I figured if I keep it around 20-25 gallons Ill be good. That sound about right to yall????
Ok now my last question is what size rockwool cubes ta use? Im running a 32 clone SOG flowered at about 12 inches, after stretch theyll end up being around 15 inches tall. Id like ta use 6 inch cubes but 32 of them just barely fit with absolutely no space in between. Will that end up causing problems? If so my next option would be 4 inch cubes but I dont think theyll be big enough to get them all the way thru flower... or will they????
Like I said this will be my first run using hydro so any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated! Any other input would be great to yall.

I only run my mothers in an eb and grow setup with alot more space than you are talking about. So most of your questions I can answer but i will say that your rez should be fine and the 600gph pump is definitely enough. I only use 250pgh on longer running times.

they make rockwool mats that cover the bottom of your tray im just starting first ebb&flow & looking at mats your tray is a common size i think the mat your size cost about $45.00 [u.s.] i know they work well with 4'' blocks have a friend who grows that way i take a skewer [used for bbq.] & poke it through my block to use for anchor point to bend plants over & tie down which due to your height restriction might be an option to consider

i am prettu much running the same set u as you are but my lights are different i feel you on the water part i hae done some looking and found that they really dont make a res for a 2x4 table i have seen soecomplete 2x4 ebb and flow setups for sale on the internet with a 25 gal res i think that the 25 gal is not really enough u would probly have to top it off thrugh out the week i am currently using a 40 gal rez with aprox 26-28 gal and i add about 4-8 gal to top off everyother week and i change my res on the weekends i dont top off o pretty much every other week it is a bitch though if you could find a 30 gal rez you would be money chk my grow for some ideas if youd like

oh also if your going to use the rockwool cubes id go 4 inch for ur set up and make sure to keep the tops covered to help prevent against algae u could also buy some slabs of rock wool to set them on to allow the roots to grow more or u can use a 4x4 coco mat i think i paid the same price for the coco mat that it would cost to cover the bottom with the rockwool and i purchase the thickest coco mat i believe its 2 inches thick very easy to use i cut it down to fit my tray and im pretty sure i a big enough piece left over for a second grow its up to you either way you go will be fine oh and i am jealous of ur chocolope and the pheno u had too i think i had that pheno too i was not able to keep it though when i moved i would love to find it again

Damn yall thanks for all the quick replies! I really appreciate it. SomeGuy, Kali, and Cannibus Im definitely gonna check out yalls threads. I been growin several years now so I dont think Ill have too much trouble switchin ta hydro but I def wanna read up on some grow journals ta get some ideas and figure out any potential problems I might run into.
So yall think a 600 gph pump will lift all that water 3 feet straight up to the flood table huh???

Kali I actually picked up a 30 gallon rubbermaid for a res last night so I should be good. Do you have any probs with PH fluctuation or high temps with a res this small? Ive got a Hanna GroCheck that constantly monitors PH/PPM but I hate havin ta adjust all the damn time ya know! I was thinkin about runnin slabs under my cubes but Ive been runnin coco for about a year now and fuckin love it so Im def gonna try the 2 inch coco mat. When the hell are they gonna start makin coco cubes man? But I am one lucky sumumabitch ta have found that Choc pheno man, I emailed DNA askin for info about it and they claim theyve never seen or heard of a similar pheno! Youre the 1st person Ive spoke to thats familiar with it. I almost put her outside with the rest of my chocs last summer but somethin told me ta hold on to her! I didnt even get a chance ta flower any clones until recently but after we harvested a couple weeks ago I am oh so damn glad that I kept her! A 90% sativa finished up in 52 days! All this time Id been worried that she was just a runt and wouldnt produce much or be very potent... We ran 4 per square foot in 6 inch square pots of coco and got about 20 grams per plant! And there's some OG, Cherrry Bomb, and Jack the Ripper goin around and everybody is sayin that the Choc is killin it all! What a find man and out of a freakin 6 pack too! I got some pics ill post for ya as soon as I can figure out how.

nice u got to let me know how that rubber maid works out io was afraid to use them for fear of it leaking or having a problem with them my temps in my res have been really nice the have been between 65-68 degrees ph is easy to maintain i ph the first day and maybe adjust again a lil then after that it stays 5.9 to 5.8 you 600 gph pump will work very well mine i believe is only 265 so u should be fine you will probly want to water maybe once or twice a day at 15 mins in the beginning and progress to more as plants mature and can take in more i got a chance to personally talk to dna at the 420 expo here and so cal they were telling me that there was even a purple pheno of the choco its one of my favorite strains live that choco thai taster i also like their cannalope haze dna is my favorite seed company

They pretty much came outta nowhere and started killin it, if the Cannabis Cup wasnt so damn crooked these days I think they'd have a lot more awards under their belts, them and Subcool have gotten screwed out of a few awards at the cup.
Speaking of Cannalope Haze, have you heard all this controversey goin around about its true genetic background? DNA claims that Cannalope is a cross between an original Haze Brothers Haze and a long flowwering Mexican sativa, but if thats the case how in the hell does Cannalope flower in 8 freakin weeks??? The original haze flowers in like 15+ weeks and the mexican sativa is just about as long if not longer, so how does 15+ weeks pollinating 15+ weeks = 8 weeks? Dont get me wrong Kali I love me some DNA but that just dont add up ya know. I first read about this while doing some research on the genetic background of the Chocolope, tryin ta find out how in the hell a 90% sativa pheno was short stocky and flowered in 52 days! Well I found out that Reeferman claims to have given DNA some C-99 F2 seeds around the same time that the breeding for the Cannalope would've started... And you know that C-99 flowers in 50 days, if you mix that with a Choc Thai after some work youd probably have a pretty good chance of producing seeds that mature in 9 weeks. Whats even more crazy is that if you look at the growth structure of my pheno it doesnt l ook anything like Choc Thai or any haze or sativa Ive ever seen but it sure does strongly resembles of C-99 man!

By the way I started readin your Grape Ice thread, it sounds nice man. Ive been wantin ta get some Grape Krush ta run outdoors, supposedly it finishes in Sept and can put out 5+ lbs per plant!

yea i have always wondered about that myself when i first heard that they may have used a c99 it made alot of sense i could deff understand that it made alot of sense especially inregards to flowering time and i believe your right i noticed that the chocolope with my choco structure i did some research on the choco when i noticed that pheno i found there was a guy who had that same pheno and was selling to a few clinics down here and then after some more digging i found a guy who claimes he has a purple choco pheno have you heared anything about that i think he is bsing he told me his friend had originated the kings kush and had sold it to arjan a few years back idk if its true or not but ne ways cheif do you have a journal going

your gonna love hydro its so simple and works so well and the yields are awesome .. easy 1 pound per 1000 light everytime .

I been growing eb and flood for a long time i used hydroton though ..i flood my tables every 3 hours.. pump runs for for twenty minutes . then turns off an slowly drains down whole process takes about 30-45 minutes ..i dont flood at all during the dark phase ... which gives a chance for the roots to get some dry time.....
there is a coca medium that my bro uses but he top feeds which then drains into ebb and flood table .. i am not sure how well it would work for straight up eb and flood ..

hydroton works great it reusable, easy to wash and best part you never have to buy it again ...i love hydroton..

the tupperware thing will work good BUT get some duct tape or cargo strap and wrap around the top BEFORE you fill it up so the sides downt bow out ... and they will bow out ... trust me i use a 30 gallon tot too mix nutrients and water my dirt mothers via a wand and a pump.

somethings to look for in your first hydro ...

1.ph is real important 5,5- 6.0 ish
2.res temp around 68-72 .... too cold ad a small pump with no hoses on it .. this recirculates the water and the pump ads heat..
too hot..... time the recirculating pump to come on every other hour ... if still to warm every 2 hours and so on..
3.get a good airpump and air stone... i use one 24hrs a day in res and 1 in each hydro table that comes on when table floods ..too much air flow will cause a mass outbreak of beneficial bacteria and mess with you ph so dont over do it..... just a big pump and a big stone in res...... then i add mad air in the flood cycle( my own invention) ... but if you do this to the res you get problems.... from experience ph goes through the roof..
4.depending on what nutrient brand you use the order that you add the products is important to avoid nutrient lock out.
5. add nutrients on the weaker side .less is better..... then dial it up until you find what works best for you and your strain..
6.ppm real important 1200 ppm seems to be gold for me in flower 900-1000 ppm in veg ...


thats about it change the res every two weeks good water is important.. i use a tall boy2 stage filter to clean up my water..

thats all i can thing of ..

heres is my gig

2 weeks in ez cloner... straight water
2-4 weeks in veg tables at depending on how well clone takes off 900ppm
6-7 weeks in flower.... after 4 weeks i raise lights as high as possible drain res fil with fresh water and add gravity bud hardner purple max and bush master for 3 days then.. drain flush then lower lights add normal nutrients back.. until i get ready to flush ..

last 3 days flush with clearex

i use cutting edge solutions as diercted JUST the 3 steps not the other stuff they have because it will cause nutrient lock out
then i add earth juice molasses( veg and bloom).. budswell... gravity ,purple max ,bush master ,liquid karma, hydro guard ...

oh get some bt i to stop fungas gnats from ever taking up house.. i use cheap ass mosquito dunks from lowes.. put them in a stocking so the bits dont get all over ...get some bt i even if you dont have gnates so you never get them .. if you dont wanna use dunks get gnatrol but its 100 plus per gallon dunks work just as well and are the same bti but they are 6 bucks.you can also crsh these up and mix in your soils 4 your outside stuff .. just a tip...

Well if this guys "friend" sold kings kush to arjan he has to be friends with the guy who owns Apothecary Seeds, which I guess is possible but I doubt it you know how people are with their "friends"! Apothecary is supposedly teaming up with Greenhouse, thats where the Bubba, Chemdog, Kings Kush and a few others they recently came out with are coming from. Ive heard that Apothecarys Kaia Kush and Grape Ape are gonna be released thru Greenhouse soon too, anybody know details on this????
Im def startin ta think that C-99 is the mystery male, I just cant figure out why they wouldnt br straight up about it in the 1st place ya know? I think Cindy bein in the mix would help sell a shitload of seeds! But the flowering time and the growth structure all point to Cindy bein the dad. The purple pheno Ive never heard of and Ive done a ton of research on Chocolope all over the net. But I think the Original Choc Thai did tend ta turn purple so if thats true then I guess its possible.
But anyway Im dyin ta talk ta somebody else thats got this pheno man, does that guy who was sellin it have a thread goin or is it just somebody from around your way? Im sure he's gettin paid off that pheno tho man, Im still kinda in shock at all the great responses I keep getting! I mean I kept her for 6 or 8 months without having any clue what kind of results I was gonna get from her clones, and now its def payin off man! Theres a guy around here that grows one of the original Chem Dog cuts, and everybody in the city knows this strain. It goes for 4-500 a bag all day when it comes around and Ive had several people tell me that my Choc is killin it! Hearin shit like that makes me feel fuckin great man, especially knowing that if it hada been in my garden the quality would be even better! I was anxiousas hell ta flower some of her clones and my buddy had some space but this was his first grow. I was there helpin alot but if I had hands on time with em every day like Im about to I know the yield and quality would def improve even more!
I dont have a journal goin yet man but Ive got all my clones cut and rooted, my tent is put together, lights hung, ventilation hooked up, only other thing I got left ta do is get my ebb & flow put together and throw the girls in there! That should be done by tomorrow or the next day so I def got a grow journal comin in the next few days my man. Im hopin somebody else with this pheno will see it and holla at me!

Dr SkunkFunk good lookin out on all the info my dude, its much appreciated! Ive been doin my gardening thing for awhile now so I dont think Ill have much trouble switchin over to the wet side! I originally wanted ta use 6 in RW cubes, 32 of them will fit but the cubes wont have any space in between them at all and for some reason I dont think thats a good idea! What u think? If not 6inchers Ill be usin 4 cubes but Im tryin ta decide what ta let em grow into. I was thinkin about using 2in coco mats once the roots start comin out the bottom but my buddy at the grow shop told me I should put a layer of Hydroton below the coco mat and then put the cubes on top of it. So thats one option that I know nothing about so any input would be great! My other option is puttin down RW slabs under the cubes but Ive heard the slabs hold too much water so I just need ta figure out which ones gonna work best for me.
My tote is a 27 gallon and its really heavy duty similar to a rough neck. Im probably gonna go get another one and put one inside the other to help strengthen it up, I cant afford a 30 gallon flood! So duct tape really keeps em from bowing out?
Im runnin Technaflora's recipe w/all the adds and the 3 Fox Farm Solubles in place of Awesome Blossom, it works great especially for the money! Ive been lookin into the beneficals too, Ive got some Hydrogaurd that I run in my cloners that I was gonna use and I been lookin at Advanced's Phirana and Tarantula too, what yall think?
Im guessin BTs are chemicals used ta control gnats???? Whats the brand u get at Lowes? Do you just hang the shit in stockings and drop em in your res or just hang em in the room???

It seems to never fail when your gettin a grow set up that when you think youve got all your supplies together and everything else taken care of, a bunch more little things pop up that you never thought about!
Well I went out and got some calibration solution for my ph/ppm meter and some fittings for my flood table. The fittings dont fit and the solution dont work! Hope yall can help me with this one cuz Im kinda confused here...
First Ive got a Hanna GroCheck Combo meter, the solution I got is your standard General Hydroponics 1500 PPM/EC and 7.0 PH calibration solutions. The PH solution worked fine but for some reason I could not get the PPM to calibrate using the Gen Hydro PPM solution. Anybody out there have a Hanna GroCheck that knows what knid of solution to use???
Now the ebb & flow fittings that I got just plain old dont fit the holes, the fittings are too big or my holes are too small! The guy at the grow shop told me that one size fits all but obviously he was wrong! The holes in my tray are exactly 1 inch, is that the standard size or what?
