my friend is renting one and he has lived there for 4 months. When he moved in the electricity was working and he never called to set it up in his name.

They never shut it off and now he is going to set up lights and wonders what he should do?

Is the landlord paying for it? Previous tenant? Maybe the light company isn't allowed to turn it off?

the power company sometimes leaves the power on between tenants they take the reading to bill the last person when they call to turn it off ,when the new person calls to turn it on they come get a reading for the start point of the new bill. i own apartments and see it all the time. use it up its free, they will shut it off someday tho but it could be a month or more. i had tenants get free power almost all winter before and the apt. has electric heat and hot water.

no place pays your power for you
i did this with my very first apt ever
i thought that the power was factered in the the rent
i was worng. after 5 month they cut it off. the power company had me show a lease to get it back on i was charged from the start of the lease, they based it on historical data and i had to pay it all back in installments and still pay the regular bill - the power was shut off on friday they did not turn it back on untill noon monday- some state have laws that prevent the power and gas company from cutting anything off while its cold to save lifes here in chicago landlords cant put you out in the winter - i think he/you have untill march first

also its a bad idea to grow in an apt fyi

Exactly people are getting lucky, power company has landlord and its his place he gets the dam bill when tenants move out. Maybe in better economy they would let it go but someone is getting a dam bill in america, the landlord owns the property and electric is charged to the one who owns the apt. the landlord is an idiot if he is renting and has no idea when people leave unless they werent paying in the first place. Children will help keep power on normally they wont cut it off if there is a baby or sick person in the house who has medical equipment,

I would just go and get the account in your name. You don't need it coming back on you. Most people get busted by stealing electricity, telling people about their grow, and/or the smell. Apartment management where I use to live would have yearly inspections of the premises.

Yeah, I saw where an old person died from the freezing temperatures, and he had the payment on his table ready to go. Not paying a bill on time shouldn't be a death sentence, and these companies need to take some responsibility.

Its all automated so if no one tells them there is an old guy there they dont have time to give a shit if your own family or yourself dont. I would just get it in your name so you know its not something that will come up in week 6 flower, isnt it enough your getting weed for free? just pay the electric
