no one have any ideas? i basically just need to know the cheapest type of fan i can get away with. DO i need to make or buy a cool tube or could i just cut a hole in the hood and vent out it into the attic?

My suggestion is that you use a duct booster that fits you're specks, if you got the loot (10"=60$ US dollars). If not use a small high velocity fan taped to a duct or right in front of you're output hole

+rep thanks i wasnt sure if a duct booster had enough cfm. Would a 6". be enough or do i need to go with an 8".And do you think a cool to is necessity or will a vented hood suffice?

Hey whats up burnout, that name is ole school man i was once a burnout..LOL look if you are going to run a 400 with that size box then i think you better run one with a cool tube or air cooled housing with glass even then you will need to still run a seperate exaust maybe with a passive intake for box cooling..If you go to get a 6" inline fan from home depot dont waste your $ get the same one from HTG, home depot 180cfm HTG 260 cfm also make sure you have a decent air circulating fan as well..
this is from trial and error mine, my box is about the same as yours and i switched my 400hps out for the 250 hps until i can get a larger area to grow...I hope this helped..Peace

I have a cab that is 2.5'w x 2'd x 4'H. I made a cool tube for my 400W light with a pyrex bake-a-round, and a duct fan from home depot. I have the 6 inch. It works great. I have a 50cfm fan blowing air in, and air exhausts through one end of the cooltube, and out the duct fan. My temps (measured 6" below light) stay between 78 and 84 with lights on. I'm sure it would be better to use an 8 in duct fan, but whatever you do, I think you need to have the exhaust fan near the cab, cuz if you try to like vent it to the attic, there may not be enough power in those fans to do it. I have heard that those fans don't work well with distances.

Oh and for cutting the circles, there is a drill bit that I think is in home depots tiling section, that will let you adjust the radius of the circle to be cut. It is around 20 dollars. Or you can but hole cutting bits that are specific sizes.

6" will move enough for the 400. I run a 6" with my 400hps and 4t5 all burning. Heat is not an issue for me.
Im glad to here that someone can do that because i could'nt! lol how many cfm's is your 6" fan? is it a home depot ?160 cfm? I ran my 250 for a while with one of those and my temps were still at 80deg 6" from plant tops but the light itself was cool to touch..But the 400 was not going for that...

well the cab is actually built intothe house so the attic is pretty much just a hole away no distance at at really probably only about 2ft. of duct. but yeah im think cool tubes gotta be built . damn:peace::peace::peace:
